Channel for bounties report

Dec 29, 2010 pirren link
Old story, but..

+ Make a channel for UIT/Itani/Serco bounties report, like CtC.

e.g.
"1000000 bounty was placed on :player's: head by UIT government."

Variants:

1. One channel for all nations bounties. E.g. ch 997, where all bounties are reported.

2. Different channel for each nation. E.g. 997 for UIT, 998 for Itani, 999 for Serco

3. Report about bounties in current nation's ch 11. So, bounties placed by Serco may hear only Serco, bounties placed by Itani may hear only Itani, etc.

+1 for Global bounty channel, optional, periodically posting bounty list, and sightings, collections, evasions, etc.
+2 for Nation-wide bounty annoucements

Every time a Bounty is placed or raised on behalf of a player, one update on nation channel. Another when it is collected. So even newbies will see the system protecting them, and feel they had their Vendetta.

While optional global channel is more verbose, reporting combat results, locations, bounties list, etc... AND allows hunters to talk remotely to Marshalls!

Good idea. Unless you have the marshal on speed dial bounty information is kind of hard to get. This would make things somewhat more accessible, kind of like the CtC channels.

yes!

Also, automatically join hunters to the channel. They can leave it if they want but to make sure people get the proper info at first when they are new hunters they should be auto joined then opt out of it later if they choose

+1. Perhaps this could also be used, later, to place bounties.

+1 to OP, -1 to allowing anyone to interact remotely with a Marshall. You want to track a player, you have to team up with someone who can sit in the sector with the Marshall and relay that info to a group of hunters.

+1 to remotely communicating with marshals.

-1 to global bounty channel. Only bounty hunters should get information, and only from the nation they are hunters for. All other should have to follow the news post.

You should have to sign up for hunter in person (like now), but then there should be an option to ask the marshal to please pm you updates. This would not require any channel, since it would all be by pm to/from an npc.

Rethinking my vote:

+1 to a NATIONAL Bounty Channel, only for bounty hunters for that nation. News and contact with Marshalls here. (Ch.111)

+1 to PMs from Marshalls to victims when a bounty is placed/raised/collect. (PM)

+1 to brief news about bounties >=750.000c on a global, opt-in channel. Exactly like the news. (Ch.99)
--Consider it subscribing the news channel as a newsfeed/atom/rss/SMS...

I think any information about things in space is good. How about having the bottom line of the screen as a rolling data channel. CTC , all the guild channels , 42 , bounties , race stats , etc. . Make it on to start with , give new folk an idea of how much is actually going on .

I would also welcome bounty system issued by government/faction. For example *some* KOS people should/could be listed automatically.
I don't mean that all KOS people should be there, though. There will be some more conditions.

Moreover, only players with standing "Respect" and more could benefit from bounty. Maybe player with lower standing wouldn't have an access to the bounty system of that faction.

Respected players can contribute to faction Bounty List (however, they pay expenses :-). They can add only players, who are <= dislike to that faction.
All players capable issuing bounty can do it twice a week (credits to CrazySpence) at max.
All players listed on bounty list are informed when they login (as the online buddies) and there will be sent PM to them when online.
When the bounty is paid, player is informed via PM (he probably noticed he died before, but make it consistent).

All players listed on bounty list are explicitly informed when they are entering space monitored/guarded of that faction, something like:
*UIT BS* "You are entering system of the faction which issued bounty on you. You are not welcome here and you will be hunted."

*Maybe too tough one:* When player is on bounty list, his position is announced to bounty channel, WHEN he is traversing issuer faction systems, which are monitored/guarded.
Maybe channel will get only system info, not exact sector.
Bounty channel also transmits changes of the list. Not summaries or something like that. Just fresh info.
Bounty List summary is announced as the newsletter, or perhaps as the mission (just listing the bounties, good for newbies).
Bounty List does NOT provide info about the bounty issuer.

Bounty list can be controlled by commands:

/bounty list [faction]
/bounty issue <faction> <playername> <credits>

Credits are deducted from account immediately. When more than one player issued the bounty, it will logically merge to just one.

Government can increase the bounty, if player has some bad points.
Government can donate weapons/stuff to winning hunter (it will be placed in the nearest faction station).
Game will reward all issuer, hunter and rat with some XP. Why? Issuer is making gaming opportunity, hunter is winning the fight and spent some time on hunting the rat. Rats are spice of this game. Reward him he is good rat :)
For example 10/80/10 percents for issuer/hunter/rat?
Overall XPs are composite value calculated from difference between licences of hunter/rat.

There will be "Bounty Hunter" badge, perhaps allowing future use of all this (equipment availability etc.).

Extras:
+3 to newsfeed on bottom of page, OR as 1-line area just above the chat area (reduced font or absent in small screens). News on bounties, events, mission offers, ads...
>With option to expand it and scroll back, just like chat area does.

@davejohn
It really deserves a topic on its own. Plz create it?

+1 to split bounty collecting reward, makes more ppl involved.

Target location should only be broadcast when someone already with a bounty crosses the border WH and visit capital stations (sector).
Bounty News: BadRatName crossed our border at SystemName

@astib
This is barely what I imagine as the now existing Bounty System. And good description the 'rat spice'...
The Devs should publish how it works.

Key points to me:
People who have bounties should know, and should know why and how much.
People who hunt bounties should know those things as well.
People who have had bounties placed on their behalf should know it has been done, without needing to opt into a channel or become a hunter. (Allowing them to opt out is fine.)

I think that when a bounty is placed on your behalf, regardless of any channels, you should get either a mission-text style announcement or a PM from the marshal which tells you about it. A PM would be more personal, which is appropriate for the guy who was just killed.

The person on whom the bounty is placed should probably only get a cold mission-text style warning, along the lines of "For the death of JoeBobNewbie, the UIT has placed a bounty of 14,000 credits upon your head." Their message should not be personal - the government isn't going to give them that honor.

Channel-wise, I think each nation should have their own bounty channels, but anybody should be able to listen in. That way Itani who become UIT bounty hunters could be accommodated, and generic pilots from any nation can keep tabs on who potentially dangerous pilots are, around the verse.

The channels should also give the reason for the bounty, as well as the amount, but without revealing the victim's identity. So in the above example, the message would be "For the death of a UIT citizen, a bounty of 14,000 credits has been placed on the head of JimTheRat." Leave it up to the victim or the aggressor to reveal that information if they so choose.

Subsequent crimes would be added onto the report until the bounty is claimed. So eventually the message might read like this:
"For killing a UIT citizen, the bounty on JimTheRat has been increased by 20,000 credits. This brings his total bounty to 253,000 credits, for killing 4 guards, 5 certified trade ships, and 8 independent pilots."
(The "guards" are station guards and npc escort ships, and "certified trade ships" would be npc convoys. "Independent pilots" refers to player ships. Gives a way to gauge how potentially dangerous the person is before you encounter them, and perhaps clues as to how to hunt them more effectively.)

I'm not a huge fan of putting this stuff into 11. It could easily become spammy and discourage players from using 11. I do like the idea of posting notices about particularly high profile bounties, among other things, to a separate news channel though.

EDIT: All numbers in this post are for illustration, and do not indicate what I think the bounty values should actually be.

yeah, nice, +1 to detailed description .
