Ships being actually damaged when shot
This would add a whole new meaning to repairing ships, because it could affect how the ships handle, and, in certain cases, it could disable weapons. right now it's just a health repair, not an actual ship repair. This would make PvP much more realistic.
+1. Also, you should see at least a hint of the smoke billowing around your ship when you are in 1st person view.
Wow. This has never been suggested before.
Don't people backroll anymore?
You can already see your own smoke if you're backpedalling.

It is a real shame that this thread even exists still but PLEASE READ PRIOR TO POSTING A SUGGESTION
I am guessing you did not, please do so before posting more drivel.

Huh, I never noticed any smoke when backing up, but then I don't back up very often, and by the time I reach the end of a fight I'm apparently too focused on the actual fight to notice things like smoke. I'll have to remember to look for it the next time I'm damaged that much.
I tried it today and didn't see any smoke while backing up in 1st person. I had damaged my ship down to 9% by turboing into roids and it was definitely smoking in 3rd person.
Do it in a rev. You might well be able to see it while staying still.

You're genius. Have you already tried turboing into players? :}

Yes pirren. I've destroyed a few enemy ships that way already.
I'll try it in a rev next time I'm in game.
EDIT: Nope. Used flares to drop my health down to 8%. Once the smoke from the flares faded, I saw no smoke in the 1st person view.
I'm using the Linux client if it makes a difference.

Your eyes, and not the client, are the problem.

Apparently my eyes are faulty as well.
Maybe he can point it out to us.

Know what, if the right roll vector to see smoke coming off your own ship in 1st person view is eluding y'all, ain't my fuckin' problem.
You kids have fun now, ya hear.

Pizza, backpedal...
HUD shows you moving forward (blue) fast. You should turn F/A off and move backwards, so your speed indicator goes red, and smoke goes "ahead" of you, becoming visible.

anyway, maybe there could be mechanical flaws in ships when they're being manufactured? Thoughts?
Alloh, with F/A off the speed indicator is blue no matter which direction you're moving. So he could well be moving backwards at speed in that image.
I was going backwards.
