Add new guides?

I've been hearing about guides, and they sound like a great idea to re-implement. Maybe you could make people like Ecka, Maalik, and waffles guides? That way newbs know to take their words seriously (well maybe not for waffles XD). Just a thought.

Yeah. We do need newer guides.

whoa that was quick. Also maybe add Conflict Diamond.

I was thinking Ecka as best trader, Maalik as best PvPer, and Conflict as best miner... then nation leaders like waffles and seragyn.

waffles?

Why not make the next 6 year old you see a guide too?

Ecka I can see. Maalik is perhaps mature enough, but a little bit aloof.

But waffles?

You just made the entire thread sound like a complete joke by even bringing his name up. I would be twice the guide as waffles, without even bothering to curb my trolling. If I was Ecka or Maalik I would be highly offended by the mention of their names in the same sentence with waffles.

Yea we really do need new guides.

Unfortunately, the community is WAY too polarized at the moment to appoint any guides without there being immediate accusations of partisanship and/or people saying 'fuck this I'm leaving'.

thats why I said only give it to best ppl, where there is no arguement

I have no problem with Ecka and Maalik. They have both been trusted NW hosts and are mature enough to transcend community politics, when needed.

I'm not entirely sure about Ecka as he has mostly been on the receiving end of my guns, but he was NW host for how many years? And I can give my word in full support of Maalik, who's never been involved in any politics and has also been a trusted and long time NW host.

True.

I disagree with guides being members of any guild for much the same reasons.

And shank reinforces the problem I pointed out. "I'm not entirely sure about Ecka as he has mostly been on the receiving end of my guns,"

Can't say I blame him, and I wouldn't blame the vipers for bitching if Maal was made a guide.

Yea, Conflict Diamond hasnt been on very much recently, but idk who else to choose in terms of the best miner.

As for waffles, he is the one that requested we start this thread, so I felt duty bound to include his name :)

Besides, he IS the ITAN leader.

It may require a certain personality to act as a guide independent of player assumed roles. I myself can count on one hand the number of times i would have acted as a guide, even if i where able. then again, i might not fit the bill that many might expect of a guide, exactly because i would act so infrequently is such a role.

even so, you have asked for guides. nominate someone, or shutup about it.

To clarify, by saying that I wasn't sure about Ecka, I meant that I don't know him enough to make any judgements. Maal, though, I can say for sure has been the least absorbed in politics amongst us pirates. I am going, mostly, by their record of NW hosting.

Anyways, it'd be best to get input from them before we start talking about nominations. They might not want to :P

any seconded nomination may remove themselves from the ballot. but other than an self indulged ego trip, there would not be any point in a player rejecting a nomination until they at least receive a second.

Sounds good Roda. But please explain the difference between voting/nominating. if u nominate someone then someone else seconds does that person become a guide?

I second Ecka if this is something he's interested in =)

Couldn't resist

this is going nowhere and while we do need guides, they should not be player picked.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Crusader, but Ecka and JE both pwn my paltry mining knowledge & xp, among many MANY others.

I agree that we need guides, mostly in the training sectors and systems, and most critically during extended trial promotions. I also agree that guides should not be player elected. (If elected, I will change my name to "Conflict of Interest")

This is just off the cuff: what if guides applied as per PCC. If accepted, they gain access to one of x number of Guild Software accounts with pre-established character names (say 2 of each nation: one permanently stationed in the training zone, the other free to roam). The player serves a set term (say a month?) during which his/her actual account(s) cannot be used, and at the end of which, the player is rewarded with sub time on the account on which they applied.

Like the VO Peace Corps :)
