Very negative suggestion about set home stations

Make fee for set home station 50,000 credits for chars, higher than 3rd combat level.
Jul 06, 2010 Dr. Lecter link
No way.

Make it 500,000 credits.
Jul 06, 2010 CrazySpence link
I'm not opposed to this idea. It could be a fee for setting up whatever magic puts us back in the station after our constant deaths.
Jul 06, 2010 ladron link
No, it needs to be at least 1.5 million. Right idea though.

Or you could do 20,000 credits per license level (that is, add the 5 levels together and use that number * 20000), that would make even more sense. It's harder to accurately clone people who are older and more experienced, or whatever.

Also, it should be cheaper at one's home faction than in grey or other nations.
Jul 06, 2010 Alloh link
Hhmmm... good idea, but

Make it FREE at homeland, and variable prices elsewhere.

Like, for a Serco pilot, Serco stations are free, UIT charges 100,000c, gray ones varies from 10,000 up to 250,000c, while Itan charges 1,000,000c (OT: but should refuse).

Or a basic table based in standing:
POS: FI * 1,000c
Adm,Resp: FI * 10,000c
Neutral: FI * 50,000c
Dislike or worst: FI * 250,000c

Where FI is a faction index, so homing in UIT is cheap, but in Corvus or Ineubis are more expensive. And FI is allways 0 for natives.

This way you also incetivate more interaction, because cheaper stations will have more residents.

Sounds like Ecka's pretty well screwed.

Not so bad ideas, but still weak :/

personally, i hate this idea, it simply makes me work more for the same gameplay, currently making money isn't fun gameplay, it's tedious and boring.
Jul 06, 2010 Snax_28 link
Making money is fun when everyone else has to be making money. Right now, making money is simply a lonely grind because it's too easy, and there's no real money sinks. If traders are out making money, then pirates are out making money, then gun runners are out making money, then the traders are out making money, etc, etc. Much funner than running lonely trade routes or popping Voys...

Anyway point being, money sink, etc.

Interesting thought. I'm not against it. Would have to be present from the beginning (maybe free at Capitols, small fee at non-capitol stations in capitol systems, and so on). Ramping up with licenses and factoring in local standing.

Still, I'd like to do a bit more tweaking to the income methods before dropping in mandatory sinks (it'll change the "reasonable" values). But please, continue discussing.

Okay, atm there are several suggestions:

1. Fixed price for every station, (maybe except conquerable stations):
a. Make it 500,000 to every station. By Dr. Lecter
b. 1,500,000 by ladron
c. 50,000 by pirren

2. Ladron's suggestion
20,000 credits per license.

3. Alloh suggestion, based on standings:
based in standing:
POS: FI * 1,000c
Adm,Resp: FI * 10,000c
Neutral: FI * 50,000c
Dislike or worst: FI * 250,000c

4. Alloh suggestion, based on free *set home* at homeland and varios prices at other systems

5. Incarnate idea, (maybe free at Capitols, small fee at non-capitol stations in capitol systems, and so on)
---

Well, imo if we combine some of these ideas:

- Start collecting taxes from 5 combat
- Set the base price 50,000 for setting home in Serco/Itani space(X)
- Set the base price 100,000 for setting home in UIT space (Y)
- Set the base price 200,000 for setting home in grey space (Z)
- Set price X/5, Y/5, Z/5 for Capital stations
- Set price X/2, Y/2, Z/2 for stations in Capital systems
- Set price X-10,000, Y-20,000, Z-40,000 for POS players
- Set price X, Y, Z for ADMIRED players
- Set price X+10,000, Y+20,000, Z+40,000 for LIKE players
- Set price X+20,000, Y+40,000, Y+80,000 for NEUTRAL players
- Set price X+50,000, Y+100,000, Z+200,000 for DISLIKE players

Aye, if you honestly think it would make a difference. I haven't rehomed in years, so I really can't see that it would have much of an effect, unless you apply the fee every time a player gets killed and returned to their home station. Thing is that would hit newer players who get killed botting, not rich vets.

I thought VO was moving towards a dynamic economy. If that is the case, then surely the price of rehoming should depend on the number of players homed at a particular station. Unfortunately that would affect all the players who use /explode to ship their valks to sedina for pvp, rather than traders who just potter about not being shot at.

Maybe that would just be far too logical. Lets think about turning deneb into a serious war zone instead ...
Jul 08, 2010 Roda Slane link
There should always be at least one station that is free to rehome and respawn at. It could be the faction capital, or for native kos, the corvus capital.

One thing I like about this game, is that even if you have zero credits, you can still get a ship and a gun. There should always be a viable option for a player who has managed to get zero credits, even if they are hated by every faction in the game.

Fee for setting home will be the first step for things you write.
And yes /explode is very exploitable now, but anyways without it people'll still simply die from guards :) Even 100,000 won't stop valk-haulers or faction-repairmen from abuse. E.g. while repairing faction standing I will better pay 100,000 cr., than fly on my own from Ukari L-2 to Azek C-14. Time is money! But if I'll need to pay 500,000 for each taxi-death, there's chance I'll try to think about alternate way (e.g. warthog mk2 :) )

There should always be a viable option for a player who has managed to get zero credits, even if they are hated by every faction in the game.

+1 to free home station for this purpose, Capital stations sounds really wise for all faction-standing players.

I must say again, i hate the idea of it becoming prohibitivly expensive to re home 7 or 8 times a week (ladron would have that be about 12 mill, or atleast 3 hours of grinding, making the game not worth playing).

however i have the sinking feeling this is going to happen (I'm not a pessemist, just a realist) so lets try to make it so that people of over 900 standing dont end up spending more than 100k/rehome
Jul 08, 2010 meridian link
I think this would affect me more than most, and in a bad way. I'm constantly re-homing from one end of the 'verse to the other when people request assistance, and then I have to re-home at my original location again after. Plus I'm a bit of a nomad by nature, never spending too long in one area.

I'd hate to say it, but such a change could be a game-breaker for me.

This isn't a money sink, it's just another reason for trader and miner types to stay in a nations capitol. It would also make newbs think twice about re-homing in stupid places like Odia M-14, taking good fresh meat away from the table.

I thought we were trying to encourage folk to goto grey, not stay in Sol II...

incarnate proposed free set home in capital stations, this means Odia M-14 too ;)
Jul 08, 2010 Alloh link
I still prefer to relate it to "local" standing, reducing prices as it grows. This solves Choco's problems and most of others also, since welcome players pay lower prices, while disliked ones have to pay a lot to be accepted somewhere.

I don't like that every capitol is free. Makes no sense that I can home inside my enemy's home, and for free, even worse!

Also, if someone is 13-KoS, he should be very very restricted. Like only access free bus/gun/cell.
