More weather systems
This suggestion is rather involved, so probably not too appropriate at this point.
Asteroid Shower - high velocity micro-asteroids that tear holes in your hull
Negative Energy Field - reduces battery production rate
Volatile Clouds - can be ignited by weapons fire to deal damage to other ships in a cloud
Unstable Wormholes - temporarily form between various systems and last between a few minutes and several hours.

Make it micro asteroids that do between 10 to 100 for damage.

As long as it does damage to your ship if you're in the radius...(I've wanted this for a while).

Really? Unstable wormholes? Dislike.
I'd rather have a wep that shuts down a wormhole while it's engaged. Blockade of win.
Edit: Made a thread Ryan. And yes, it is abuse-able to an extent, but abusing it would require teamwork of awesome.

I'd say 5 minutes to 20 minutes for the unstable wormholes. Hours without the wormhole from Latos to Sedina would be pure evil for fighters, and the wh from Nyrius to Dau... you'd have to go through Grey a dozen systems, or all the way around Itani/Serco space.
Asteroid Shower: 10-100 damage/hit, but make them avoidable to a degree (200-600m/s, density of 1/square meter maybe). If the asteroids became destroyable, this'd be extremely fun. The particles should come from the same direction (face a vulture in this direction, and you're pretty safe)
Negative Energy Field: -10e/s recharge
Volatile Clouds: I think it should appear like a fog sector, except with red, orange, yellow, and all in between for coloring. Energy fire would cause a series explosian like a chain of flares, one/10-50m it traveled. Damage of (1000-2000) each detonation, decreasing with distance from each detonation as a flare always does. Missiles/rockets/normal flares shouldn't be affected in this. Radar range of 2000m instead of normal 5000?

However i think that perhaps unstable wormholes should only connect random sectors with ion storms in entire galaxy.
That would be fun - jumping from one storm to another for faster travel. The storms would not be seen only as annoyance but as a helper - that would definately increase fun factor.
Of course every option would have a probability of appearing, and one (or two) would be selected at random.
