Breach the Command Module to Capture the Station
New station capture mechanics:
Turrets defend the station but are not involved in capturing it.
The station has a "Command Module." It has 50K armor. When the armor is gone, it is damaged, and appears as an empty shell. Landing bays do not allow landing for owners, but turrets continue firing. The module is large enough to enter with a ship. The holes in the damaged module allow an effective field of fire by any surviving turrets against a ship inside. To capture the station, a pilot must enter the breached "Command Module" shell and repair it. When the shell is back to full strength, the "Command Module" comes back online. The pilot within it sees the station dialogue, and he becomes the owner. Surviving turrets are now available to defend his station.
• This idea could solve the ninja problem because to capture the station a pilot must occupy the confined space of the "Command Module" for the time it takes to do 50K of repairs. Ninjas could readily be dispatched.
• Actually destroying a part of the station is very appealing.
• Repairing the station to make it functional is realistic.
• It's not possible for owners to exploit this system. Killing your own command module and repairing it does not replace your turrets - it just makes you more vulnerable to attackers.
Note: Iry suggested a similar version of this idea:
