Proposal: pocket-capships TEST combat
Hi,
All this talking on pplz-owned capship, I wish to test some concepts. And there is a quick way to do so, using Moths and turrets.
We need at least 6, preferably 8+ pplz to do so. Ideal scenario, 8 pplz on moths with turrets, each pilot once his moth, and goes as gunner 3 times on others...
The moth's pilot weapons should be severely limited at start, but we could test also with bigger guns. But try to pilot the moth as a capship, defensive position while turrets do their job.
I'd prefer non-lethal combats, stop at 20%.
Also it must be a "secret" event, or trolls will ruin it. Not pirates, they will know no cargo around...
Also I'd like to see some botting with a moth full of gunners.
See proposal for Ineubis Jackal (Corvette-class Behemoth) at http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/21342
So, more pplz interested on idea?

It's an interesting idea, but I don't think anyone has seriously considered a moth, even entirely full of turret gunners, to be a combat ship.
A. The turrets are ineffective at engaging a non-chasing target (actually, they're ineffective period, but some people have issues dodging and chasing at the same time).
B. The hull lacks sufficient "staying power" for the weapons to destroy even the most moderate combat threat before the platform is destroyed.
C. Largely affecting both A. and B., the platform lacks sufficient speed and thrust to allow either effective target engagement or avoidance piloting. If I see a moth bristling with gunners, I really only have to stay about 1200m back and gem, ADV rail, and/or swarm it to death.
There's also that tiny targeting problem for the gunners themselves.
Try this idea with Taurs; you'll need fewer people and come up with a better set of combat rigs/techniques. Also, the "cap" should be engaging at least one and probably two or three regular combat ships.

Lecter, you got it wrong. I dont consider a moth with 3 or 6 turrets a combat ship.
But as WW2 german ace pilots started flying on gliders, we can test ideas, concepts, tactics, train future capship pilots...
>>Crazy example, just as reference: For get license to fly a capship, a ppl must pilot a moth with 3 bot gunners and kill 100 collectors... <<
Also, it would allow us to have a different FUN and feel how would be to fly a capship against a similar capship... Probably if when you piloting a capship you are not shooting at someone, but directing your gunners fire!

Estimated skill transfer from proposed event to actual cap ship piloting: 0%
