I've been playing for a long time, I don't feel I should have to click through the 50 page tutorial to start creating a new character. Please give us the option to skip it and simply leave the training sector.
YES.
So. Annoying.
I like Gav's suggestions as well. I tried making an alt the other day and after I got through the tutorials I started leveling and it was pure grinding rage.
The simple solution is to eliminate the trolls er I mean alts. After all the bulk of them are little more then guild spies and place holders for bogus guilds. Quite frankly allowing 6 alts delutes character identification and immersion as well.
Yes I am being serious.....

At least make it so you can't have more than 3 alts. 6 is too many.
I would definitely like to be able to skip it.
Also, six alts is way too many. Three would be okay. If someone needs another one, they can delete a previous one. Problem solved. Is anyone even using all six...?

If you delete my alts I will be so mad :(
I am. Two pirates, an itani for Border War and conflict, Corvus News Network for RP, and what is supposed to be a serco alt for serco side fun.
The point of the all the slots is to allow players to participate in the whole game. If you only get one character there is too much picking sides and too much you won't get to do. There's so little content as it is that limiting character numbers would be counter to enjoyment of what is available. As it is the process of starting a new character for a returning player is limiting enough.

Even if it WAS reduced to 3 characters, there'd still be the ubergrinding problem... Good idea.
On a side note, it bugs me that every time I make up another char it does the 'first time player' tutorial on by default..(the one that pops up the moment you log in)

yes.
there is an easy way around this though go in the vo .ini file and put this in:
["exact-name-goes-here-without-quotes"]
run_tutorial=-1

im kinda against reducing the number of characters per account, id have to buy twice as many accounts, and ive already got 10 alts in CLM, i like the skip the tutorial option, making it easier than editing the ini file (wich is REALLY easy), would be nice because im lazy.
I like gavan's solution even better, cause then I wouldn't have to level any new alts, i can do most anything i want at 3/3/3/3/3

Or you could invest a bit more in each character. The point of an rpg is to make choices for your character and live with them. I can appreciate wanting to enjoy all of VO and having a spare alt is not the issue... having 6 of them is. Those that really want to spy on other guilds and create useless placeholder characters can just buy an extra account as far as I am concerned.
As to the grind... I have an alt and it really isnt that much of a grind once you know VO well. It seems to me you just simply dont want to invest the time to develop a real character.

Investing time to develop a real character...
Been there, did that, even got the T-shirt.... at least 20 times.
Deleted chars with scary stats and pk/death ratios, deleted crazy and funny chars and started new ones, over and over.
Believe me, after you have done it so many times (like some of us vets) you start to seriously hate that beginner grinding stuff. it's... just.... so... boring. Grinding your levels to lvl 3 has nothing to do with building a new real character capable of RP-ing.
Yes, seasoned players can do it in a matter of hours but... at what cost?
Complete and utter boredom.
And we do play VO to have fun and we create new chars to have more fun.
Gavan made a good suggestion and I like it.

About alts: 6 characters are enough.
About starting alts: I say it should stay the same because it is beneficial to the devs for players, especially the vets, to run through the basic "newbie process" and report bugs or suggest changes to help along newbs or correct mistakes. If this game wants to succeed then the current players have to give a damn about its potential life force (newbs) and help them along to encourage them to stick around, and by running through the same exact process that the newbs go through, helps us see what would make the beginning part more fun or easier. In the end, encouraging newbs to stick around and play the game leads to more revenue to the devs, which leads to greater potential for more content, which is why we, the current players, are here for anyway, some content or rather MORE content.

Yes to the OP.
Also, mentor points should be associated with an account not with a character. I think Denji first suggested this.

a couple hours bojan?, hell, Ill do it in under an hour, but while i do have bloody oodles of time, it's still not infinite.
Spidy - Regarding the tutorial workaround: Regardless of the workaround, a new character can't leave the training area until it's passed the first 3 training missions.
Surb - That's what the PCC and the test server is for. The rest of us should have the option to opt out.

Inc, if you're reading this,
your words:
"Frustration does not make for Fun."
Lets get rid of the frustration here.
PaKettle:
Okay, you don't like people having lots of alts. But that's not the issue here, and the devs can't reasonably change that (as stated earlier, people would have to give up characters, which would lead to no end of griping and frustration for the devs),
Adding 3 hours of grinding does nothing to stop players from creating spies. (and creating a spy takes much longer than just making a new character anyway, you need to build up guild connections... and you can't appear to be doing it too quickly)
I actually wanted to create a new character when I started up again, I figured it would be fun to fade back into the shadows until my skills got better again.
2 problems:
1) I got tired of killing collectors REAL quick.
2) I realized that the stupid Beta badge, which I can't turn off, would immediately give me away as a vet.
Sometimes you just want that new player feeling, the feeling of starting up and exploring the galaxy again, without any enemies or people who stop you and ask how so-and-so is doing, or for fights.
