Ship Headlights
I'm not sure how difficult this is to implement, but they had it in Halflife ;)
Headlights would allow a whole new type of sector to be created. There could be entirely dark sectors requiring illumination from your ship. The whole sector wouldn't have to be black, but some of the asteroids would be very dark.
One thing about Vendetta is that it doesn't simulate the real lighting of space. Because space has no atmosphere, objects in space have very sharp shadows (ie. one side of the moon is bright and the other side is very dark). Perhaps adding headlights to ships would allow the lighting of stations and roids to be more realistic.

Already been suggested. No plans for it yet.
wel, we have gamma. that works.
"wel, we have gamma. that works."
well we don't :(

The Kid: are you using Linux?
we are not all using linux....
what do you need to use to have the gamma?
what do you need to use to have the gamma?
Setting gamma is a temporary fix, but it makes lighter areas look downright ugly. By the looks of it Vendetta currently uses a vertex lighting system. The only advanced lighting feature we see now is the r_glow effect, which is only available to a fraction of players with high-end graphics cards. I'm not saying it's impossible, but until the lighting portion of the engine is redesigned I doubt we'll be seeing flood lights or advanced shadow effects on ships anytime soon. I too want 'em badly though.
I can just imagine a pitch black sector where you have to turn your floodlights on to navigate. Essentially it would be a sector without a global lighting source and it would contain black fog to limit your visiblity. Going above your cruising speed wouldn't give you nearly enough time to react to the asteroid in front of you, so players would be forced to navigate through the cluster while cruising slowly. And maybe an unmarked or hidden station can be in this sector too. We could call it like a dead sector or something. Very creepy.

Hmmm... Dead sector... I like...
Lunitary: you need to NOT have Linux to have gamma control.
This dead sector with a ghost station sounds sweet. it would be something compl337ly different.
wake up to yourself people and RTFM:
xgamma -g 2
xgamma -g 2
randomize: yeah that changes the whole thing. How about you go RTFM.
Settle, Blaster ;)

i was responding to these posts. You can change your gamma in linux X by typing:
> xgamma -g 2

I'll be the first to admit I have not rtfm for Linux. I was going off this thread:

I thought The Kid might be saying he has Linux and therefore no in-game gamma control.
I don't know where the hostility came from after that.
