Extend the external dock arrows

Problem:
I have issues locating the docking entrance, even with stations I frequently visit.

I do find the entrance eventually, so this isn't a major problem.

Context:
The game offers two mechanisms for promoting the location of docking entrances. The first and primary mechanism is the radar which shows the "S" symbol. This is fine.

The second mechanism is an architectural design of the docking bay entrance. The entrance bay is lighted and consists of directional indicators that point toward the entrance. These arrows, however, are only positioned out from the entrance maybe 25m. In VO terms, 25m is not very far.

Proposal:

I suggest that these arrows be extended out 100m or 150m. As they are currently placed, they don't seem to serve any functional, non-comestic purpose. By the time you spot the arrows you have already spotted the entrance bay.

This is just a minor suggestion. Obviously the devs have better things to work on.

It would have to be tested to appreciate the effect it would have on station appearances.

I have no trouble finding the docks, btw.

Thanks, and I agree that there would need to be a balance for aesthetics and functional use.

Parking lots and garages usually have lots of nice blinking signs in the "real" world.

How about an option to turn on a "docking path" overlay in the HUD? If you're within the NFZ you can turn this feature ON and follow the imaginary line on the HUD, which leads you RIGHT to the dock. Call it "Docking Assistant." Make SURE you can turn it off, though.

I do not usually have trouble finding the docking bays. If I need to I will zoom in and inspect the station in more detail as I am approaching it to see what part of it I need to aim for.

At least in VO the stations do not rotate, and you do not have to match your rotation with that of the station to dock.

I do however find docking a moving capship slightly challenging sometimes...

Having an extension of the tracking lights isn't so bad, maybe the devs could change the lighting effect and shape to allow more notice to a 'runway'. This would also be most useful in a fogged sector.

I haven't actually played VO in ages (dead computer) I remember that the ads float in a line out of the docks, do I remember wrongly?

extended docking arrows might look cool, flashing lights in space and such.

As a new player I am often confused when trying to dock. It seems you can approach the station at a variety of angles and have no indication of where the dock is until you're so close you could almost figure it out without the arrows.

But I figured this would somehow get easier with experience. Maybe I will remember, or perhaps there are other indications to figure out where the dock is.

I agree. Extending the docking arrows to me seems like a simple copy/paste job for the arrow texture. I'm all for it. When I first started, I did have trouble finding the arrows, but when I was more experienced I did not. This may attract more people to the game. Also, coloring the docks in a very different fashion to the rest of the station (Say, color the lighted area red) would make it stand out a lot more.
