Realistic weapon velocities
I like the game. I'm a signed up paying member now :-)
The only thing that I don't like so far is the ridiculously slow weapon velocities.
Please bring in more realistic velocities like light speed for energy weapons. As 1 player mentioned, he has a BB Gun with higher velocity than the fastest gun in the game.

Mostly, that has to do with the game being playable. The faster an object moves, the more work the server has to do to keep track of said objects, which leads to lag. The ships themselves have cruising speeds lower than the speed of sound, after all.
Besides that, dodging weapons is an important part of combat. Lightspeed-velocities, even if they were practical, would basically be hit-scan weapons, and there are several reasons why those would be a bad idea (trust me on this--there used to be figgin lazer beams on the old HACs. Bad news).
Furthermore, the energy-based weapons are particle-based, not lasers, so while they might have relativistic velocities 'in real life', lightspeed is out of the question.
For all the tl;dr guys out there: Gameplay > Realism.

There is a trade-off between realism and playability. Note that the fastest any ships go is 810km/h (about 503 mph for anyone still using the Imperial system of units). "Realistic" would be in kilometers per second, not per hour. "Realistic" would cause unbelievable amounts of lag, and combat would be impossible even without the lag.
If you want full realism in space I would suggest taking a look at this simulator, made by the same people who make the X-Plane flight sim. It's about as realistic as possible, sure, but is it fun? I'd wager a guess that you'd say no after playing with it.

If you read the energy weapon descriptions carefully they seem to imply that they are designed around the electromagnetic force. This is interesting since our ship drives are likely gravity-based, including the ability to open a wormhole. Those fire trails you see coming from a boosting ship? Plasma vents.
What doesn't any of this take place at relativistic velocity? Because then there wouldn't be much of a game. Earn your 100 pk badge, then see if your perspective has changed.

I'm a big proponent of "realism" in the game, but I agree with the previous assessments, due to lag and playability, weapons velocities must remain as they are.
