[RFC] The Mentor System
I propose that we make a few changes to the mentor system in order to make it more understood.
1: -
Popups -
When a player asks for a mentor, make a popup come up, and ask
(Would you like to be [player]'s mentor? [Yes/No])
And then one for the mentor rating part..
(The end of your mentorship has come, please rate your mentor based on the effectiveness of their teachings [Good/Bad])
2:-
Reducing the ratings needed for the UC Powercell and Repair Mk2-
to 12 for the Mk2 Repair and 30 for the UC Powercell.
----------------------------------
Reasons for these changes:
1:-
The mentor system is confusing, and when the rating prompt comes up, many people miss it in the midst of 100's talk and whatnot.
2:-
Come on guys, get real, 15 mentor ratings for a crummy "weapon" that is barely better than the Mk1?
And 40 ratings for the Ultra charge, oh wow, 50 capacity increase for millions of hours of mentoring.. ?? my god...
It's hard enough to get 20, let alone 40.
-----------------------------------------------
Comments Welcomed and Appreciated

The UC is not just 50 capacity points more, it allows any player to equip it, therefore, making it an excellent Mentoring tool. I agree that 40 good ratings is too much though. I have been playing Vendetta for over a year and still only have 12 good ratings. It has also come to my attention that a player cannot be mentored around lvl 3 or 4 (tbh, im not sure exactly what the limit is for mentees). Honestly, just because a player is lvl 4 or 5, doesnt mean he doesnt need to be mentored, it just means they have done a lot BP :) (in some cases). Also, what if a player is 9/9/9/9/9 and had no clue about the mentor system? Even at lvl 9 he should be able to give away his mentor points to someone he trusts and wants to help out. I mean, he will do it anyway - make an alt and use the alt for it (you can have 3 mentors per ACCT). as far as the popup window, yes i agree. and there should be more emphasis on mentoring, most new players don't even know about it.
I was also pretty curious, how many licenses upgrades until the student is prompted for rating?
i am pretty sure when a player reaches combat lvl3, he cannot be mentored anymore. however, it might be lvl4.
Or how about this:
idea #1 why not make the uc better and keep it at 40, ok im no saying that because i can buy the uc, but agreed it is not much insentive to help.
idea #2 Get a strong base of players together to form a 'help' guild, and new players are automatically thrown into this guild. You may want to make 3 help guilds, one for each faction, otherwise it would be hard to get to the players to help them. That way, with the huge amount of new players vo has recieved it does not clog up 100 with questions. You could argue thats what channel 1 is for, but its not really used.
Also the fact that tutorials get you too level 1, you only have 1 level to play with before the mentor system stops working, because you can't mentor people over level 2 i seem to remember reading ages ago.
If the guild idea was implemented the mentor system could be completely redone, and only people in this guild got rewarded, maybe 1 point per week, so if you are in the guild for 40weeks you would recieve the UC, clearly you may find people aren't helping, being rude to the new players or not online enough, then there place in the guild would have to be questioned.
I would join the guild, to help the players.

So would I...

Daare after reading some of that post it makes sense, but there has to be a reward to mentoring, and though the uc isnt much better than the fc it still stands out as a mark that u mentored people, agreeing with armonia it is also another way to mentor further since you can offer the battery to lower levels.
I have no problems with rewards for mentoring - I just don't think it is the primary motivation for people to do so. In any case, the gist of my post, and this thread as well to an extent, is to find a way to make it easier for both mentors and proteges to find one another - if that were done the current requirement for the UC battery isn't quite so onerous.
Easiest solution would be new players who would like a mentor get put on a list. Mentors search the list and contact potential protege, possibly based on some criteria like nation or focus. Voila.

i just dont think thats practical, if they auto join a guild, and are not happy they will be free to leave, and it will instanly stop questions on 100, and move it to the guild where there are people willing to help them, and gain the benefits
It's a system that has worked fairly well with another MMO I used to play. But take a look at suggestion 3 of my earlier referenced post - you will see that I, too, favor a "newbie guild". However, anything that makes it easier for mentors and proteges to find each other is a step in the right direction.
Also, channel 1 does get used for help questions, just not consistently. In any case, channel discipline has to come from the whole community - if people don't want 100 spammed with questions, gently point the questioner to channel 1. Once channel discipline becomes part of the culture, it becomes easy to enforce.

The chatter on 100 happens because of the tutorial lesson where it tells the player to type /join 100. i havent checked on this, but from what i remember, it doesnt say type /join 1 for the help channel. please correct me if i am wrong.
I fully agree with the new player guild. this would give an opportunity for players to already feel like they are part of something, familiarize them with Guild Chat, talk directly to higher level players who are willing to help (i would assume that the only higher levels players who stayed in that guild are there to help), and jumpstart the Mentor-Mentee relationships. IMHO, i think the uc is very VERY helpful. if a new player (especially uit) is trying to trade but is lvl 3, his mentor could give him a uc to help him trade faster and outrun potential enemies. Also, the uc is better for combat training because it is more common in battery capacity and recharge rate, most people do not PvP with medium or heavy batteries.

agreed Armonia.

I forget, does the UC have no level requirements?
Also, for as long as I've been able to teach new players stuff, I've done so for free. I know the stances of most other members of the community differ from mine, but I still think that doing something nice to others is its own reward, I do not expect 'payment' for it.
That said, facilitating the mentoring process would be a good idea.

uc has no rep requirements, so it can be given to anyone
