TPG HEAVY..."Charles"...ATLAS
License: -/-/-/6/-
Armor: 13000
Length: 34m
Cargo: 95
Ports: 2L 1S
Mass: 28000 kg
Thrust: 550 N
Speed: 65 m/s
Spin torque: 9.0 [EDIT]...not sure why I put it as 19]
Turbo: 200 m/s [EDIT]...or 195
Turbo energy: 60/s [EDIT]...or, 55/s or 50/s

in response to the concerns of valuable customers, TPG released the TPG HEAVY..."Charles"...ATLAS armed heavy cargo hauler. in the hopes that traders and miners might be better able to deal with pirates and potentially rival factions...(though not affect thier Behemoth or XC sales)...TPG has redesigned and re-armed the Atlas.

Where does this leave the centaur? from a quick glance it looks like this has more cargo and a slimmer profile, overall better
Sep 14, 2008 Kierky link
I have to agree with smit, this will never pass, the centaur cannot be ruled out.

Not really sure if a Moth sized Atlas is slimmer than the Centaur...I'll look into it, though I believe the Centaur...(target wise is over all smaller).

I was thinking more along the lines of TPG makes this to compete with "light Behemoth". Is it better than the Centaur? Well sure, for doing cargo runs though nation and border space. Is it...(even with 3 ports)...a shiny new missile magnet/dinner bell to every pirate in space? Absolutely. So, I would say the differences balance it out pretty well.

if the atlas is going to cary as much as the moth doesn't it need to be about the same size? They can't just add magic fairy dust to make more room can they?
Sep 14, 2008 ryan reign link
Capt. Waffles...no magic fairy dust is needed a standard Moth is 34 meters, the "TPG HEAVY..."Charles"...ATLAS" is 34 meters. there for, they are the same size.

Just in case any one else misreads something...

This Atlas is MUCH larger than a Centuar, holds more than a the Moth light, less than the standard and XC Moths. It is 34 meters in length...equal to a standard Moth. It has mass roughly equal to a Moth. The mass of the Moth and each varient is 30,000kg, the mass of the proposed ship is 28,000kg. This ship is significantly different from both the Centaur AND the Behemoth.

I hope this clears up any past, present or future confusion.

Do we really need more trade ships at this point?
Sep 14, 2008 toshiro link
Why would a trade ship have 60/s energy consumption?
Sep 14, 2008 ryan reign link
60 just seemed a good number because of the size, the power consumption would seem to "preserve balance" and all that.

The stats...of course are just a rough draft, so to speak. And as such are subject to the Devs whim.

Trying to fill a role that is already filled.

"Trying to fill a role that is already filled."

yes, that or provide options. options are nice to have. If we are to have only 17 ships, we may as well continue choking on variants, and if we are to continue choking on variants...we may as well have a large selection to choke on, so that we may all pick our absolute favorite variant to choke on.
Sep 14, 2008 Surbius link
I think each ship and its respective variants need to have some quality about them that makes them superior in that aspect to the other. Such as, the centaur is best as the mid-range mining/trade ship, its variants are the heavy armored and light cargo variant.
The Behemoth is the heavy mining/trading ship, its variants are the heavy miner, the heavy trader, and the light trader.

These two ships are about the only two ships I can recognize as having distinct roles (maybe the Valk and SCP too) and with variants to excel in different aspects using the same model. Other ships should use these as templates of what function to fill and aspects to make variants for.

How did it grow an extra port too? All the other atlas configurations have 1L 1S....

And for it's size a top speed of 200 m/s is unrealistic compared with every other ship.

how did the rev c and ibg grow extra ports?, or the aeolus moth?
Sep 14, 2008 ryan reign link
thank you Look...no hands, for answering the port question.

"And for it's size a top speed of 200 m/s is unrealistic compared with every other ship."

actually quite a few ships including other Atlas have a max turbo speed of 200ms. The Aeolus Moth has a turbo speed of 175, this has less mass/more thrust...ergo 200 is not actually not unreasonable.
Sep 14, 2008 Pointsman link
Trade ships should have a maximum speed of 190 m/s
Sep 16, 2008 Kierky link
Yep, this will never pass.

Overpowered much?

they would have to stretch the model, he says this variant is 34m, thats 20 meters longer than the collision model. space penis?
