Drop the damage by a factor of at least half and raise the price by a factor of 10, and maybe it'd be balanced.
damage should be ~80. price is good. larger grid usage, 8 maybe even larger.
wouldn't high autoaim guns look pretty weird on most light ships?
Yeah, I don't think light ships were built for turret fire.
...or you could learn to aim.
This small port gat is the vaulk answer to the sun - gat prom.
Grid useage must be 4 to allow equipping on the hornet.
The purpous of an excellent autoaim weapon is to allow sluggish heavy ships the possibility of hitting a nimble light ship.
The damage to energy ratio is similar to the large port gat turret.

Pointsman, I'm gonna call you out on this one... If you don't have anything constructive to add, just keep it to yourself.
It was a serious comment. You can aim manually with light ships so there is no need for this.
Spam weapons are unfun.

At one point in VO history we had a gun with excellent auto aim.
Hive positron. It weighted around 1500kg but its autoaim was so good that that it killed everything very quickly.
Devs realized their mistake and changed hive positron specs in 1 month.
Gating turret in VO is a very boring and nobrainer weapon. Sure, in combination with rockets, it makes heavy ships dangerous, especially proms, but thats about it.
Now making a small port variant with *excellent autoaim* would make combat in VO really lame.
I can understand players too lazy to learn to aim drooling over such a weapon that could help them score PKs on far better pilots in light ships but... its not going to happen.

if you want a small port gat its gotta be little to no a/a and should have a small spread and a quick velocity.
Oh how I loved my Hive Posi valks :D Seriously, those things were deadly, even if a pair of em weighed in at the same mass as a tri-flare and were an ultra rare queen drop.

Even if you have an argument for this as a Valk add-on, which you may, there's no reason at all that it "must be" available for the hornet.
Times like this, I wish GS would consider/find a way for certain ship variants to have non-removable addons.
A Valk variant with this weapon (I think the stats are too powerful, but those can change) and one other S-port... neat to try. But the weapon doesn't need to get put on, say, an ultralight. Likewise, I'd like to see a Valk with a single megaposi on it, and one S-Port. But I don't want to see anyone putting anything else in that ship's L-port.
Customizable ships/equipment are all well and good as a general rule--but we'd actually be able to have some really neat combos if there was a way to make certain ship/item pairings an unalterable package deal.

I wasn't going to say a word about this, but here goes anyway.
Gatling, yes. Fast fire weapon is something needed for small fliers. Dog fights are great if you can get off the rapid fire. That's one of the reasons I don't typically use small ships. Flech would be good but for the extremely short distance of shot.
Turret, I'll go with the majority. No way. Makes no sense, no room to really put it, just plain bad.
Think about your typical real life dogfight. There's two choices: Fire long distance with a missile and hope it tracks or get in close, stay close, and start spraying.
Now let's take this to space. There's still basically two choices, just not as clean: Fire long distance with missiles and hope they track and hit or get in close and know that you'll be strafing each other, one going backwards and one going forwards, until someone dies or tries to break off.
What you're asking for is better "auto-aim", right? Not necessarily a Gat Turret. Personally I'd just want something that fired fast like a gatling, small damage at a time like you'd expect, to spray down an area of space.
Here's what I'd recommend for what you want instead:
Two versions of Flight Assist. You can either have the Flight Assist computer which would help with flying straight and level in the direction you want and stop when you want OR the Combat Assist computer which would be basically Flight Assist off flying but helping with position thrusters to keep you closer to aimed at whatever you're attacking. Why is this a better suggestion? Because small, light ships will be able to aim better like they should but larger ships would still be clunky and in need of such things as turrets since they can't turn and adjust fast enough.
To me this is a substantial change in programming, ship design, and weapon design, and so is not likely to be implemented fast or at all. Still, it makes more sense than the "Small Port Gatling Turret."

Give it a rest, Pointy head.
Okay... Vendetta isn't a first person shooter; auto-aim isn't auto-aim... it's turret tracking. You 'physically' cannot fire in the same kinds of angles, at the same times, as someone with a Gatling Turret, with your Rail Gun. Yes, we're all painfully aware that given all the time in the world, we're presented with the same number of choices, in terms of angles, but the ability to choose them is limited by the quantums you can turn in, and the time which it takes to rotate your woefully bulky fighter. And in combat, you rarely have all the time in the world.
The Gatling Turret doesn't have this restriction, atleast inside it's cone of aiming; it turns immediately. Granted in order to make it do so, I need to allow it's restrictive programming to guide it, it still gives me more options than with a neutron blaster. This is the advantage. If I had enough hands and hardware to guide the damned thing myself, you'd bet I would! But lacking that option, I suppose I and the rest of VO will just have to make do with the 'auto-aim' in order to achieve the fullest potential.

If we were talking a fixed gatling cannon for the S port, I'd say yes... but we already have that.
So, no to this idea.

Changing to a different account doesn't excuse the fact that you're still Pointy Head.
Ok, the light fighter jockeys have spoken. I understand that in their perfect VO world there would only be light fighters with no autoaim. There are, however, pilots who prefer heavy assault ships. I, for one, would like to fly the hornet and use it for something other than a rail platform. The small port gat would make that possible.
