I'd have more fun if Corvus stations were complete free-for-all zones. As work goes into securing the more newbish places the excuses for not letting grey space devolve into what it could be dwindles.
Yeah for a start no guards at stations in the grey zone would be nice
and im starting to miss the PIrate bots plz bring those back

I'm a little hazy on some of this, since it was awhile since we implemented it. But.. isn't a NFZ just a bounded sphere of roughly 3000m radius, centered around the station? So, in other words, why can't you just fly.. away from the station a little ways, until it stops telling you "Don't shoot anyone!" when you shoot, and then kill each other to your hearts content?
If I completely remove station restrictions and guards, we're going to get a lot of station camping again, and other stuff that has been a great source of frustration for people in the past..

I'm already doing this at corvus if I luscious moth happens to have poor timing. Jumping out and in solves the sf problem.
But I'd like to see more stations at say Sedina, Bractus and Odia that didn't give faction loss if you kill someone there. Then start up again say in Latos and Pelatus.

hell, could a station be added in sedina that has no nfz, just so if we want to screw around blasting eachother around the station, we can. It'd be really cool if there were alot of crap to fly around, and maybe even some short tubes and such. just for the sake of blowing eachother up.
You mock me, LNH. :(
Seriously, isn't the NFZ a bounded area? It isn't sector-wide at present, is it? I honestly can't remember.
You are correct Incarnate
no pointsman i was actually being serious, it'd be great fun.
EDIT: oh incarnate, the "do not shoot here" warning only comes up once, so if you fire once right outside the docking bay, then a minute later fire again without moving, you get no warning.

Perhaps a happy little red light that appears when in a NFZ?
The NFZ only tells you once if you fire within it. After that its a guess as to wether or not if you're still in it.
So, yeah, this is more of a need for a "NFZ Detector", like Lemming says. We could do that. Some kind of little HUD icon, which could optionally have a sound effect.
I like lnh's VO theme park idea...
As for the NFZ indicator... why not overlay a slightly differently-coloured bar over the distance meter that shows how far you are in the NFZ?

some of us don't use the indicator bar because it's not at the bottom of the screen where it belongs

Isn't it 1000m?
It is 1000m, and this is still a good idea.

Boo-flippin-hoo. This would only be the case at Corvus stations, which are the Grayest of the Gray. Make them nasty, dangerous, and different. And please, move the Corvus stations waaaay off from the jump-in point. Why would the pirates place their stations in an easily accessible spot in the sector?

goddamn yes
Aye , remove the NFZ at corvus , add in some juicy high profit trade items both to and from corvus in the proposed reshuffle. I can see that leading to a lot of fun pirate trader furballs .
I'll look at doing the NFZ warning thing, that has universal applications across all territory.
If it's only 1000m, I fail to see why the abject removal of the NFZ is such a great idea. I'm going to have to deal with the ceaseless bitching of people (pirates, even) who get stuck in a station they can't leave because someone has mined up all the exits and is waiting to shoot them the moment they emerge. And this will happen, I know from extensive personal experience. This is not a whiny trader thing, unfortunately it becomes pretty universal (and dramatic, and I have to hear about it).
Strictly speaking, any true black market entity (like, say, Corvus) would know that customers blocking up their station or dying in their stores is not great for business. Dying 1000m away? Well, that's their problem. Kind of like the saloon that avoids fights inside and tells people to take it outside.
Plus, you still have 2000m to catch the trader (or, whomever) that flees the station.
Added onto this, Corvus has other uses that are going to become more prevalent. If like.. "faction-buyback" missions appear.. that's where they're going to be. I would like the region to be dangerous, but not like.. so unusably cluttered up with mines that no one can possibly dock. That's not dangerous, that's stupid.
So, how about this, for the moment I write up a ticket for a NFZ notifier. And possibly we look at shrinking Corvus station NFZs to 500m, or something? So there's a thin layer, but smaller than everywhere else. I'm willing to give that a try, but I don't particularly like removing the NFZ all together.

500 sounds better, but also I think moving the station further from the jump in point would be nice (although I imagine that would be very difficult?)
When people jump into a sector they appear anywhere within +/- 500m of a calculated point, correct? Because I know that when I'm chasing someone, I can know exactly where they're jumping, and jump to the same place at the same time (or even a bit before) them, and it is still difficult to catch up after we both come in. Even with a light ship chasing a heavy, it's tough. So if you want to make it more dangerous while eliminating station mining (both good decisions!) you just need some method of making it more (potentially) dangerous to get to the station.
