Faction Standing Loss

Jul 04, 2008 theratt10 link
I am wondering what the amount of standing lost is based upon, and also maybe suggesting considering changing the faction loss for killing an arena seeker. In a Pirate vs. Anti-Pirate battle in Dau L-10 UIT Capital, I happened to kill a seeker and went from +986 to -1000 and was wondering if the amount could possibly be changed to prevent incidents like that less annoying. Note that I was playing as a UIT character.

Also consider trying to make it so the strike force doesn't go after you if you damage a KoS within the no-Fire range around a station.

Thanks for your time.

that's game mechanics at work. No need to change something that works good currently. If you loose faction for killing stuff in an area then the simple solution is don't kill stuff in that area.

The entire faction/friendly fire/etc system will get a revamp, eventually.

I agree with the OP: he was a friendly defending home territory from KoS pirates; he shouldn't suffer standing loss for doing his duty!

I think friendly de-mining is a sin against humanity, but should stay, because it makes for fun conversation.

What is not to understand here.

A) You in no way shape or form went from +996 to -1000 for 1 kill. You lose like 900 points for killing an admired player, unless you fired in the no fire zone, then you would be set TEMP KOS, leave the sector and your standings wil rise (maybe with the 900 point loss, if you killed something that is NOT an Aerna Seeker)

B) NO Fire zones mean NO firing. I been over this time and time again with various people, but who made you the law/millitary? Nobody. Cos you aint, so a NO fire zone means NO firing? See a KOS player in a NO fire zone? Well, leave him to the SF and fly away, its not your duty to protect the station. If you are prepared to face the loss of faction, and try to be a hero, sure, go nuts, but you are breaking local laws by firing (again, for emphasis) in a NO fire zone.

That's a nice theory, yoda, but so long as the strike forces remain incompetent, it remains a theory only. Currently, player interference is pretty much necessary to oust marauding pirates, local bylaws be damned.

Either the npc defenders need some divine firepower, or else the NFZ ordinances need to change to reflect the enviroment. Take your pick.

I agree with Yoda on the point of the no fire zone, but Yoda is incorrect about the losing 2000 faction points.

I know this because it happened to me: Leber kills me at a UIT station and I went from +1000 to -1000. No notification that *anything* was killed in my explosion -- checked my logs to verify. This has happened to several players lately. I personally think it is a bug in the current faction system -- possibly UIT only.

Well, that may be a possible bug. I'm KOS pretty much everywhere, so no wonder I have not noticed it ;)

[edit]

I just checked, btw, killing Aerna seekers gives no faction loss. Only the SF vults and station guards/marshals cause faction loss, so this maybe a bug.

[edit 2]

I know 100% an Aerna seeker kill does not cause faction loss. Its because sometimes when an Aerna seeker explodes on you it will take out its buddy, 'cos it fires off them rockets to kill itself, sometimes you get flagged as the second Aerna seeker killer, if that makes sense.

If Aerna seekers really don't cause faction standing loss then I will post a note in the bug report thread. However it should still be open for discussion about No Fire zone rules.

Vardonx beat me to it. Thanks Var.

The faction system, as it stands now, is a joke. (And not a good joke, like one of those bad Michael Richards jokes.)
Has been for as long as I can remember.

If a group of players who don't care about their faction standing take it upon themselves to attack a station of that faction, there is no real penalty to those players besides lost ships.

If other players try to defend, and they kill someone, THEY lose standing with that faction. That's completely IDIOTIC.

The biggest penalty in this game is losing faction standing. Especially with grayspace factions. Nation space you can bot up your faction standing, for other factions you have to take trade missions that end up at the faction station that you need.

Regardless of how stupid it is, I don't know how to fix it. If you make it so that anyone fired upon can attack back on that one player, then there's still a host of baiting tactics that can be used to get uninformed players to tank their standing.

And as far as Vardonx losing standing by killing me.. no WAY. Possibly Temp KOS, but not permanent. I'm UIT KOS (-1000) and if Vardonx was UIT POS (+1000) him killing me should earn him a frikking MEDAL, and conversely, me killing him should be expected for a dastardly pirate such as I. So if Vardonx for some reason now has bad UIT standing, that is DEFINITELY a bug.

Now, if Vardonx used weaponry like L-Mines which killed SF or Station Guards or Marshals, then that's another story. If he used "splash explosion" weapons that could possibly damage others, then he could have accidentally killed some UIT SF or guards as well. There was a lot going on in that furball.

Learn from Mor Isil: use only energy weaps when you are fighting near a station and you actually care about not losing standing. That way there's no chance (well, ALMOST no chance) of you inadvertently killing someone you did not mean to kill.

Well the one thing is that killing an Aerna Seeker lost him 2000 points of faction standing. Logical? I think not.

yep he must have killed a strike force or two by accident, killing me or leber or impavid, if your inside the NFZ the cops come out to keep the peace but thats all

Except I didn't usd lmines...never loaded them that night. And there was no kill registered for me anywhere in the log file or on the screen.

Anyway, I'm sure it's a bug and in the meantime have botted back to safe levels, this keeps up and I'll have another stinkin' botting badge!
