Being able to buy your faction back

Ok Serco, Itani, and UIT you dont need to buy faction back because you can physically earn it back. What i am proposing is a way to fix the factional problems that go along with damaging the other factions beyond repair. As they have no controlled space you cannot bot them back.

In UIT capital sectors there should be a mission available that requires you to pay a large sum of money in order to get your faction back to a level where you can do missions again.

This would help get those who ruined their faction beyond repair back up to a decent level. On top of it, it would make money worth something seeing that something of this magnitude factional wise should be at least 100million credits or more. After all we can't have people just destroying their faction daily just to keep buying it back.

Any opinions?

Delivery missions help get your faction back, or were deliveries to hostile stations eliminated?

You can't deliver to a station that you are KOS with. You can do escorts, but they only give 2-3 faction points per escort. This sucks given it takes 100+ escort missions to get faction to a level where you can start doing procurements (currently somewhat working on this very project with Aeolus).

The problem with buying faction back would be the potential abuse -- if I have say half a billion credits, I could station kill anyone I dislike and simply buy the faction back...doesn't sound too cool from that standpoint, eh?

No, actually, it sounds great from that standpoint, Vardonx.

We need a money sink :)

It should be only to a certain cap.

Aka; you can buy enough to be able to dock, but not enough to buy weapons there.

Yeah, buy -599 sounds good. Make each faction point cost 1000 credits: if you're KOS, that 401,000 credits, which seems a fair bite.

This has been suggested as part of other suggestions; eg, I once suggested a nation government-like super guild to solve this specific issue as KOS and redemption. But I learn that if you throw in the word "government" you get maimed in feedback.

Still, this rep buy-back makes sense even if implemented as a lone solution. However, the numbers that the doc are suggesting are a bit low (I understand these are uneducated guesses). I suppose, given this would have to be automated (since no supra-guild would be behind the decision making), that the amount should depend on the number of offence. Aka, it should cost more for a more experience (level-wise) character, and that these "fines" should double every time the offender gets KOS.

So, as per the doc's suggestion:

cost = (numFaction * 1000) * (combatLevel + numOffenses)

or something along the lines.

The way I see it, as it is, regaining faction standing after you have tanked it or lowered it beyond repair is a very slow and painful process. In EV Nova, you could bribe a hostile planet and you would be allowed to land ONCE. Of course, not everyone was bribable. But in general, I think that it would be a good way to get to the quicker raising missions. (This was an example) Another thing is that if you had a mission to a place that you weren't normally allowed to land on, they would rather receive vital supplies from a criminal than from no one at all. Just some food for thought from me.

having this I think would give a value to station killing someone though as well. Vardonx if you have half a bil and you station kill someone and it costs 100mil to get you faction back you might be able to buy it back but might think twice about it again. Also you'd be spending about 20% of your total money, money that normally wouldn't be used for months.

The game needs a credit sink, and a simple way to resolve the tanking of factions is to make easily writable missions that give you faction quickly for a large exchange of money.

This will only be effective if the sums are EXTREMELY high though, otherwise it will be abused, very heavily.

Nope, it simply wont work because if you price it that high, any newer players-mid range players can't afford it. Any lower, and it'll get abused.

It has to be bear-minimum faction, and perhaps a temp ban on certain items?

Someone post that...Temporally 'Event's' that messes with your faction (like participating in a war might give you a +, flying with a really good player gives you a +, being a criminal restricts access...

Again, I repeat from my last post: Pay to dock ONCE. that is: You pay to safely come in, dock, and safely leave once. I never said it would be permanent.

Sure. Money solves everything.

Bloody corporate types.
Apr 03, 2008 zamzx zik link
Maybe that's true moldy. For some people, bribes are enough (UIT, much?) But for people like the itani or the serco, you have to do something special to dock?
Apr 03, 2008 moldyman link
If people insist on this, it should scale like faction gains/losses do. As in, on the internal faction points system. #@$@# large sums to get anywhere from KOS.

Why is that a problem? They're new, they'd better be cautious about whom they piss off.

Indeed. Wasn't one of the pros for this "money sink"? If you have no money to sink, you're **** out of luck.

On the other hand, I did get my Itani standing from -879 to -435 in about four hours by botting, so I think that works.
Apr 04, 2008 Dr. Lecter link
I've botted my itani back from -1000 so many times I can't recall the exact number. It is not something that "works."

Also, anyone who bots for standing past -599 needs their damn head examined. They're clearly missing a large chunk of gray matter.
Apr 05, 2008 Yuutuu1 link
this is less of a suggestion for serco and itani and more so for the factions that you CANT bot to get your faction back. There should be a way to get it back. So if a noob pisses them off they have something to work for, if they cant buy it back then it gives people a reason not to keep attacking factions (hm.. actual consequences!)
