Collision alert!
Hey, all!
After a quick perusal of the "READ THIS BEFORE" post, it seems no one else has sugested this, so here goes.
How many of you have accidentally backed into an asteroid during a dogfight, or in general, hit something that was not in front of you?
Well, modern day pilots (not to mention most flight sims) have an irritating, but useful, warning klaxon which warns you prior to such occurences... affectionately known as "Bitching Betty."
Pehaps some form of this, whether an alarm or voice warning or whatever, could be implemented as an option, similar to the existing proximity alert for ships.
I think it would be nice to know when there's an asteroid 50m behind me that I'm unwittingly backing into, especially since it's a little difficult to check your rear radar while fighting someone... not to mention the fact that the radar doesn't give any indication of the size of the objects behind you?
Any thoughts?
Come on everyone... jump on in and shoot down another simple suggestion!

well uh i dont know what to say really.
hrmmm..........
it sounds like a good idea but you need the ability to turn it off because you dont want it sreaming like no tomorrow when your just heading toward an asteroid to mine.

Like i said "similar to the existing 'proximity alert"' option.
Anyone else?
Anyone else?
dont expect a reply right away.. it takes awhile. i was just on at the time.
oh, i don't expect a POSITIVE reply right away, but i do expect any suggestion on this thread to be shot down by at least 7 out of 10 posters...
whoops, it seems this has already been suggested and mostly shot down.
although, i would like to suggest that someone update the "READ THIS FIRST" thread...

I am not certain if the LUA has access to sound, but I do know it does have access to object proximity.
If it does have access to sound, I suspect that what you ask for would be relatively simple to build.
You should look on the community projects for more LUA info. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/9

wouldnt it go off every time you dock?
Metroid Prime had a sexy one. T'was a meter, that went up the closer you were to danger.
There is currently an option to set the distance for the proximity warning beep for close ships. Just include another option for close objects, so you can set it to a custom range before you get a warning beep and a little red text indicator that says "collision warning" at the top of the screen.
