Couple of simple (i think) suggestions
Ok, to start, i'm not a programmer by any means, so i have no idea how easy/hard this would be. I've looked around a bit and haven't seen these suggested amongst the many, looong wish lists posted in the suggestions board.
I have just two questions:
1. Would it be possible to add the ability to turn whilst turboing? (Or maybe i'm just and idiot and can't figure out how).
2. I think it would be neat to be able to land on an asteroid (securely) and shut down power so as to make oneself disappear from "passive" sensors. If someone points a scanner in your direction, or notices you profile however, you're toast. Could make for interesting hide-and -seek side games.
That's really it. I'd like to know what other people think of this, and am i a total idiot for not finding this elsewhere?
EDIT: I just realized number 2 was kind of a two-parter, and i would also like to add to number 1 the stipulation that one would still be unable to strafe whilst turboing as this would divert too much thrust from the main engine.

um, number to answer number 1, you cant turn while turboing cause it would mess stuff up or something, the devs would know.
number 2: sounds interesting, though there isnt any landing in this game at all, that seems like it might have some uses.

Intersteller space travel: Check
High powered energy weapons: Check
Laser powered asteriod mining: Check
Radar with a range greater than 5k: nope
If I can see a ship from where I'm parked, I should certainly be able to detect it on "Radar"

boosting is fine the way it is
but maybe in the future depending on ship weight there could be turn rate while boosting
lets say for a light ship like a cent or a vult coulb be 15°/s
and for a moth could be like 5°/s

you can already turn while turboing, try this:
get going pretty fast (65 or whatever your ship's top speed is)
turn mouselook on if its off
wiggle your aiming thing away from your center of view thing, and press turbo when the aimer is swinging around fast to realign itself.
ta daaa! you are now turning as you turbo.

actually, you can turn while turboing without doing that... just roll.
yes, you can roll, which is why i don't understand why you can pitch or yaw. it doesn't make gameplay impossible or anything, i just htought it would be nice. is there some good explanation other than "it is unnecessary" for why it's not a natural motion? This is the only flight sim (space or otherwise) i've ever played where you cannot pitch or yaw while your turbo/afterburn is on.
Also, in response to Impavid, i find that the ability to power down would add an additional element of realism to the game, without unbalancing it as much as the presence of a cloaking device (which i have seen suggested) would. Of course you could still see this ship, because it's not actually cloaked, just invisible to radar. I don't think this is a difficult concept to wrap one's head around seeing as this is how real life stealth fighters work... to an extent.
So, any devs have an opinion on this stuff?

What I meant was that if you roll while turboing, when you let go of the roll key your ship's nose actually continues to move to one side (left or right) depending on the direction you were rolling. You really can turn while turboing, just not very much or very accurately.
i think the first one is that way to help cut down on running being simply who has the fastest ship, or somethign like that.
the second one, i like it very much, hell why not be able to power down without landing, make your ship visible on radar just like a rock, most ships are easy enough to see though but something grey hiding on a grey rock, would be really hard to see, especially if your hiding INSIDE one of the hollow roids.

could really make ambushes ineresting and give roids a purpose other than to mine and look at.
yeah, see... that's what i'm talkin about!
Incarnate posted a thread some time ago, Request for Comments: Changing how throttle and turbo work., where one of the concepts was to make the turbo a gradient, instead of having the binary all on or all off settings. So, you could cruise at 100m/s at a minor drain. If this were the case, I think that turning should also be affected, so that as you approach maximum turbo, your ship can't turn at all, but of course at lower throttle you could manage to turn to some degree. Wouldn't this make sense? It's as if turboing is redirecting the "jets" normally used for turning into forward velocity.
that's an interesting way to look at it mynt, i alwasy just kind assumed it simply put all reator/engine/battery whatever for foward thrust.
if that were the case, then we shouldn't be able to roll while turboing either, no? if all energy is diverted towards forward thrust, and there is none left to pitch or yaw, then there is none with which to roll either.
so, frankly, if we can't turn... maybe we shouldn't be able to roll either, yes?

Well, it's just that pitch and yaw have a special relationship with forwards (and backwards) which rolling does not share. But yeah, it could work that way.
not that I LIKE swarms being used for pvp or anything, but they have to have some pvp use. can you imagine turning while turboing to dodge swarms? it's like, okay... swarms gone... and I'm already facing them so I can shoot them down now!
Well, when you put it that way, sure. But what if it was more like, okay... swarms gone... oh noes I'm already facing them so I can get hit and boom I'm dead omfg! What then?
So, i'm curious, have these two things been effectively shot down? Does everyone really think that adding the ability to turbo and turn at the same time would ruin the game?
Likewise for the power-down thing?

I like the ideas; try posting them in the thread Mynt referenced.
