Scale up the universe!
I've been hearing more and more comments on how slow things are and blah blah blah. I figure it'd be pretty easy just to increase the numbers on every ship by double, or triple fold, so that we're flying at subsonic speeds or whatever. The gameplay of course wouldn't change at all, just the text.
That's kind of pointless.
On the other hand it might be good to finally add that 'k' to the 'N' so that thrust is displayed consistently.

The reason the Devs lowered the ship speeds initially, according to them, was so that dialup connections would not be affected. More than a certain speed and you get lag.
He actually meant changing only how it's displayed in the stats, which is even more pointless then actually changing it.
It's a cosmetic thing. ~.^
Yay Wing Commander!
No, this is bleh. Having speeds semi-realistic(i.e., you're going as fast as it says you are) and ships size somewhat realistically is one of the better points of the game. And yes I said realistic and game in the same sentence, get over it.

No, we lowered the speeds to make the universe seem bigger. The faster you fly by stuff the smaller it seems. But yeah, that doesn't have anything to do with the original post.
umm... what maq said.
I mean seriously how many newtons of thrust does it take to move a ship?

Probably 500 pounds of fig newtons.
mm 500Nfig - sounds yummy
Not to mention that there is no 'sonic' speed in space.
until you hit a roid.
If speeds are faster, dogfighting will go bye-bye and we'll all be back to using swarms and geminins just in order to HIT your opponent.
I think they tested this VERY extensively under VendettaTest, and I like the speeds the way they are now.

Speed is good. I cant hit anything but everyone else seems able to so. :)
I have tried combat at higher speeds in the Vendetta universe. It's cool when your own ship is faster, but frustrating when your target is also fast. Regardless of weapon speeds, there just isn't time to aim or react. Combat becomes prolonged and kills are rare. The devs have hit upon a good speed for twitch-based combat.
combat was no more difficult before the ship nerfing. if anything, interceptor ships could actually intercept.
the speed/cargo nerf killed ctc.

No, I'm talking about higher speeds than that. The nerf was (relatively) small.
though significant
