Mandatory Tutorial
I would like to make a simple suggestion. If an account has no character with more than at least level 1 in any licence, any new character created must take the tutorial. I know when the character is made, there is nice green text down there to inform them of the tutorial, but not as a new person they may not realize what they are getting into and inadvertantly they launch.
Once in space, they don't know how to access the mission computer, and so they are out there lost and drifting around, not sure what to do.
Just to err on the side of stupidity / ignorance, if an account tries to launch without any licences on any chars then instead of launching they will see a popup warning box, stating they must first learn the basics of space travel before they can leave the station. This could even be writtin 'in person' so to speak, being a new asturnaut to brave the unknowns of the universe.
I think this would help new people get a better grasp of the game and allow them to enjoy it more instead of being frusterated by the awkwardness of it.
Thanks for your time.

I do agree that something needs to be done to make the Tutorial more user friendly or obvious in its importance. I've been approached by a number of new players wondering what to do, and once directed to the tutorial, are completely lost having, like you said, ended up outside the station, or something of the like (drunk in the bar already perhaps?)
But I really don't think that it should be mandatory. A large aspect of this game is leveling up new characters for RP purpose, and it would get extremely tiresome and annoying for anybody past the new player state if the tutorial was mandatory.

Scroll up gav, he said that if you didn't have any players in your set of 6 yet. Every additional one would not require the tutorial
the tutorial is active for the players when they create a new one, the problem is players often ignore the tutorial and rush to fly our their ship and see the new world. I think the new interface and mission system will better address the needs of a new player. There is always the option of aborting the tutorial mission if you don't want to take it.
Right, they could later be given the option in the tutorial to go out and hack away on their own. But they should have to do a minimum amount of reading (or mashing the 1 + enter button) in order to adventure alone.
The tutorial should first explain the basic chat interface, and how to switch between the mission computer and chat boxes, both in station, and in space. Shortly after this it will explain how to ask the mission computer questions, and at that time they can choose to abort. Then they are free to be a noob as they like :)

I think that the tutorial should automatically start for the first character created, and the option to take the tutorial presented for each additional character.
I'm in the process of redesigning parts of the UI around a superior mission and tutorial-specific interface.
UBER WOOT!!
Wow. Cool. I'll make a new alt just to test out the training mission.
Same!
Yeah, way back when I was a little n00b, I did what I do with most games: jump right in and start mashing the keyboard until I figure out the keys. I soon found out that w and s were throttle, and quickly switched the throttle with the up/down strafe. I think that should be default, as it's almost impossible to keyboard-dodge well with the default key configuration. Only after a half hour or so of playing around with my ship did I try the tutorial.
As for the tutorial, it's fine as is. Sure it would be nice to have a cool and classy tutorial, but I can guarantee that anyone who gets fed-up by Vendetta's bare-bones tutorial won't stay in the game more than a month anyway.
