Okay, more stuff, the next batch has to do with the "Character" Tab.
I guess I'm thinking a kind of "Nested-CSS"-style of layouts inside the "active area". That would allow flexibility and depth-of-information.
That looks really good, I like the bank idea.
*applauds*
Excellent work, Lebermac! Glad someone finally took it upon himself to hammer out a visual example of a station interface.
The text descriptions really add a lot...
One comment on faction standings... we don't know that each faction is going to have a polar opposite, do we? The relationships between factions may be more complex... so perhaps it would be better to have a slider for every faction rather than include two factions on opposite ends of the same slider.
I also agree that at the bar it would be good to have a list of players in the bar with links to their character info/description.
Which brings up another interesting question... just what constitutes being "in the bar" at a station? Right now if you are docked at a station you are "in the bar." Simply having the tab open or not seems like it would be too tricky to keep track of, but being docked = being in the bar seems to general. Without resorting to the old walking around in stations idea, is there a better way to keep track of this?

The sliders are your idea, Phaser!
I think that having polar opposites of factions would (should) be a good thing. (Of course we have 13 factions now so Meh.) So creating the polar opposites would add a bit to the game, methinks.

I think linked faction standings would add a lot, but here's the thing...
In the game world every faction probably has some sort of relationship with every other faction, ranging from "could care less" (un-linked) to "bitter enemies" (polar opposite).
If all 13 factions are paired up on opposite ends of 6 sliders, then you rule out any other inter-relationships between other factions. Corvus only cares about UIT, Serco only cares about Itani. What about the relationship between Corvus and TPG? Itani and Valent Robotics? A single faction may have more than one enemy, or more than one friend.
Or... what about factions with some kind of "buffer zone" in the faction standing between them? e.g. Valent + Axia < 800. As long as you don't become too well liked with one faction you won't lose any standing with the other.
I like the slider, but since we don't know what all the factional relationships are going to be I'd recommend having one slider per faction with "Pillar of Society" on one end and "Kill on Sight" on the other.

OK, with only the obvious enemies linked. We could do that. The serco slider would affect the itani slider. The corvus slider would affect EVERYTHING else, etc.
Good. That sets up more complex relationships.

Yeah, but you could conceivably be hated by both Serco and Itani. What you need is a nicely-visualized point in a 13-dimensional space. Maybe you could do, like, 13!/(4!9!) rotating hypercubes.
But seriously, these are really cool ideas. Something that struck me was the "rating: Mostly harmless" thing... I wonder.. it seems like it'd be useful to be rated by other players or guilds or factions or general entities in the game, not just one global rating based on your kills or whatever.

wow, this is really impressive. I'd love to see something like this ingame.
Actually, I seriously like the hypercube idea. If you could implement that, a1k0n, I would find it seriously useful. And cool.
it looks much better than the sketches I left for Ray on the kitchen table a few months ago.
Ray? Do you now see what I was trying to show you?
I also like the Faction graduations.

*Miharu pokes a1k0n to look at his status on PFS
That's kind of what we're TRYING TO DO :P
Now, if John or you or Ray or Michael wanted to open up the radar code to Nerde and I, I'm sure we could probably get something working ingame in oh, say... three months (excluding school, food, sleep, play, etc.)
;)
(just kidding)

OK, when someone can hip me to a way to display even a 4-dimensional hypercube on a 2-dimensional surface, let me know... Hehe
Otherwise, we'll just have single-level sliders (One for each nation) and let the algorithms work their magic behind the scenes? Good? (I guess we won't need sliders then, just readouts, hrm.)
