Border Patrol is still CRAZY

Although... (this is off-topic)

All games have a "structure" - there's a banking system, and economics system, regular mining & trade routes, a kind of "society", etc.

When V-O goes "live" and they start trying to actually MARKET it, I think that the existing pre-LIVE playerbase should provide this content. The pre-LIVE players should be able to run economic bases which specialize in something or other, playes should be able to act as the heads of factions & govts, offer banking, insurance, special items, etc. Essentially, the parts of other games which are run by NPC's would be run by the players themselves in VO.

Yeah, that's pretty LOOOONG term. But anyway,

Yeah, a few weeks - the diehards ;) Not us regular types.

The problem with having players run things is that if you run out of players or a player leaves, you have to replace him. NPCs never stop playing their parts.

That's the great thing about Vendetta though... you don't *have* to be level 9 to be a kickass pilot... even a vulture mkIV with dual neutIIs is a ship to fear in the right hands.

Well, other players would succeed that player? Just like real life?

If a high-level player "disappeared" (i.e. Quit), then the underlings would take over. If everyone QUIT, well, that would be an interesting gameplay problem.

(Oh no! The banking industry collapsed! Whatever shall we do?)

Or, in the case of vendetta, one person leaves and no one exists to take his place. That might work in a game live EvE, with 10,000 people on at once, but Vendetta, with a max of 30 and a min of 0, it simply wouldn't. Or someone could become corrupt and ruin everything.

No, for universal functions, NPCs are the answer. For inter-guild stuff, obvioulsy players.

I had kinda meant when V-O had 10,000 players, that this would happen. I didn't make that clear, obviously.

Anyone else thinking that, having invested mucho real, non-exploiting time in these paid for characters... an across the board reset of levels would decimate the player base? Maybe my not having been here for å and ß has given me an artificial sense of... permanence... with respect to Dr. Lecter. But having logged 27 days and 6 hours to create what I have, I'm not willing to consider that as "training time" for a future permanent Dr. Lecter. Guild might as well delete our accounts and send us all an ad brochure inviting us to buy into the new and unexploited-ever!-VO. I don't think I'd purchace a subscription for that game, regardless of how useful my 27+ days of practice might be in it.

so basically, what needs ot be done is...

Just fix the rejoin bug
make the mission auto-retake.

am I missing something, or is this what you are all trying to work around here now?

And fix the insane amounts of money and XP generated, yeah.

...and fix the insane amounts of money that has been pushed into the game as well...

I just want to know what the devs are thinking on this subject. Are they going to keep it the way it is becuase thats the way it was meant to be?....Do they plan on changing it? if so to what? Personally I plan to "exploit" this (if you can actually call it exploiting) as much as I can.

Well, now we know why there's crazy amounts of money to be had.
It's so we can afford the cap ships. (Kewl!)

Not to worry, experienced players are still more experienced. BP is crazy, but it's somewhat balanced by the fact that new players are still just that - new. They'll eventually figure it out, but I wonder how many players who were able to take advantage of BP stayed around longer than players who didn't, simply because the got to play with better guns, etc etc. Newb weapons aren't exactly bragging material.

We're working on replacing it with something much better. The amounts of xp and money weren't intended to be so high, but we are not going to reset anyone's characters. We have plans for dealing with all of this, but you'll just have to wait until either John gives you the specifics or we release the changes.
Sep 14, 2005 LeberMac link
Yeah, BP broke the game. But at least we can all afford capships now!
(Or can we?)
Sep 14, 2005 Phaserlight link
What about the players that chose not to use the bp bug because they a) didn't know about it or b) felt it was an exploit.

I can't think of any fair solution, but a partial reset seems like the closest thing.

We call them dumb ;)

the exploit is really only monetary, the XP for bumping the mission way up isnt any greater than retaking the mission after each list, and I've managed to manage my groups so that we had a new mission the moment the prior one ended without using the exploit. (its all about making sure someone is headed back to the station to reload at just the right time)

The cash is just out of hand however.
