Casino, Stock Market, etc
I would really like a casino function in space stations or separte casino stations. That way we can actually do something with our amounts of cash. And a stockmarket has been skill as well as luck so that would be nice too.
Though i just would like to play some poker with very weird looking cards or something. Maybe in the future you can place rare items as a bet.
But this is just the selvish me talking :)

The stockmarket idea is still being thought of as I've spent many hours trying to figure out a way to do it correctly. Thinking of basing some of the stocks off real life stocks...the only problem is...if a stock splits or stuff like that.
In my experience, you end up with too many 'Enrons' selling junk stock to clueless newbies.
'Casinoes' if they are realistic tend to be ignored by everyone but newbies who haven't yet figured out that the odds are against them. If they are not relistic and the odds are with you, then they tend to destroy the economy. Given the small ammount of actual contribution that they have to the game, I'd just as soon the devs spend thier time making a space game rather than a gambling game. There are already plenty of online casinoes.
Still, if you had to have casinoes for flavor , I think you would need to put 'Gambling' on the skill tree (assuming that there is a skill tree), but even then you still arrive at the same problem. Above some level of skill you break the economy (unless you have winnings restrictions, ei 'break the bank'), and below that level word gets out quickly to not bother gambling. Because thier are other (probably better and easier) ways to get money, most people would probably not waste the points on gambling.
If the official strategy guide is going to tell you not to take the skill, there wasn't much point of including it in the feature set IMO.
BUT, if you could _buy_ a casino gizmo to install aboard a ship or space station to increase passenger/traveller revenue, THAT would be pretty cool.

I'm thinking of implementing a lottery.
So far, here's my first draft of the rules:
1) Anyone can play. Each credit buys you a chance. Max 20k credits.
2) Odds are n/pool, where n is your number of credits in, and pool is total credits in.
3) Jackpot is 50% of the pool.
4) 45% rolls over into next drawing.
5) I keep 5%.
6) Lottery winner drawn every 10 days.
Thoughts?
BTW- for those wondering, BountyBot has processed over 6.1M credits.

gambling would be cool. like in zelda. something simple.
Vendetta Vegas waits.. soon (tm). Even Station Bar casino's would be fun :)
I am working on something close to that... maybe its time to introduce it.
I was wondering why the worst case for a missin is zero...
So I imagined a *** type mission tree where you must make a safe deposit before, and if you fail, you really lose credits. And every mission completed increases values exponentially, so potencial loss is (1,2,4,8,16,32...)Xc, but profits raises linear (geometric, 1,2,3,4...).
Its already implemented as a draft, under revision. Comments welcome.

I agree that it's a shame there's no real penalty for aborted and failed missions and no-penalty death, but it seems, Alloh, this topic is about Casino, Stock Market, etc..
How do Casino's connect with failed missions? :) I think you wanted to post this in another thread and misclicked.

Its a sort of BET...
I bet Xc that you cant do mission.
Now I bet 2Xc, 4Xc ... that you cant do the mission...
That's why I posted as related... the gamble option can be in-game, instead of a blackjack sub-game.
And its really like a bet, since you first put money on it, if you succeed, you get you money back and a surplus.
