Occasional crash when restoring full screen (Alt+Enter) on Linux

May 06, 2012 zoffix222 link
Hey,

If I press Alt+Enter to switch to "window" mode so I could use other apps without closing Vendetta, it crashes when I come back to it (by pressing Alt+Enter again).

It doesn't happen always, but often enough. Let me know how I can provide more useful bug info.

I'm on Bodhi Linux (based on Ubuntu 10.04).

zoffix@ZofMain:~$ uname -a
Linux ZofMain 3.2.0-19-generic-pae #30 SMP Tue Mar 20 10:14:45 CDT 2012 i686 GNU/Linux
zoffix@ZofMain:~$

Here's what I get in the console after the crash:

zoffix@ZofMain:~$ vendetta
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 42 (X_SetInputFocus)
Serial number of failed request: 14325
Current serial number in output stream: 14326
zoffix@ZofMain:~$

Might be good to include what type of video card you have, driver version, and Xorg version too.

Also are you using any kind of desktop composition like compiz?

I get this myself - best to just avoid shifting between the two - never really saw any log entries to indicate there was even a crash much less why. Likely just an nvidia bug.

I get all sorts of occasional crashes, including this one.

First, I got this worked around. I used a window mode with the size of my desktop, then hid the panels just for the desktop with VO and set window to be borderless. Now, it's looks the same as full screen, except I can use other apps (ALT+CTRL+ARROWS to move away from VO desktop).

As for the info:
I'm not using composition. I'm on e17 window manager, which is still beta.
I'm using Bodhi Linux 1.4 (based on Ubuntu 10.04)

Card (from glxinfo):
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 9500 GT/PCIe/SSE2/3DNOW!
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 295.33
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

X.Org X Server 1.9.0

Not sure how to find out driver version, jockey-gtk says I'm using nVidia (current).
