Fly too far from the center of the sector and you can't jump out.
If you fly too far from the center of the sector, you can't jump out.
Using a wormhole sector as a measuring stick, I have found (multiple times) that if you fly somewhere around 1Mm+ from the wormhole that you are unable to jump out of the sector. Even if you fly back to the wormhole (yes, I did this), you still won't be able to jump out.
I even had the displeasure of flying towards the wormhole from 1.7Mm, reaching approximately 0.9Mm and logging off for some reason, then logging back on to find myself back at 1.7Mm.
Just in case it matters, since I've heard some platforms perform more accurately outside of a certain radius, I am playing on Linux x86-64.

Why would you fly 1,000 km away from the wormhole?
Inertia and/or turbo-lock, in conjunction with being AFK (door, phone, emergency, etc.).
Were you able to chat or otherwise communicate with people?
At some point, the server would quietly* cut off any idiot that went out too far, to combat the rather humorous trick of crashing sectors by exceeding the numeric limit of the data type the server uses to store player position. I don't know if this is still the case, or if there was a new treatment implemented at some point.
*By "quietly" I mean without letting the client know. You could fly our as far as your heart desired, but none of what you did would register on the server past some point

I was still able to chat.
What time and sector were you in?
There is a check in the sector to ignore objects that are more than 1.5Mm away, so that's probably what happened to you.

I don't remember at the moment what sector I was in or at what time this took place. But if 1.5Mm is the cutoff, then I was probably over it. I'll have to be careful about falling asleep while turboing towards a wormhole flying an XC loaded with Sedina Chocolates.
