Connection Timeout Related to Mining
A ping: 16388.6 +/- 32685.2ms was achieved just recently while mining and attempting to look at PDA > Inventory > Inventory.
This will happen every time if the inventory is large, such as inventories taking 5.00 seconds to load (a personal test).
I know that inventories have been optimized to readily open and load at the click of a button but that optimization is not universal after every known loading sequence within the game, like station loading and sector loading.

Careful Surb - the obviuos solution is to limit your inventory.....
:D

Oh come on now, we both know that if you have a device that isn't meeting your needs then you fix the device.
that's a feature, not a bug.

The simple fix for this old bug, is don't check your inventory while mining.
Unless Ray fixes it, which I assume isn't that great a priority at this moment.

Sometimes the problem lies between the keyboard and chair....
Those types of problems are usually impossible to fix.... LOL
I would suggest you sell off all your excess goods but That might destroy the VO economy. :D

Precisely, I may be a TGFT but I'm no Gordon Gekko.
I'm working on changing the inventory code such that it only loads your local inventory and the list of all your populated stations when it first sets up your inventory, and loads each station only when expanded. I haven't looked as closely at the update mechanism related to mining, but I should be able to get it to update only the affected location (which should always be your local inventory, unless remote selling gets implemented; I'll try to make sure it checks what the location is). Hopefully that will kill this problem. It should hopefully be impossible to have enough stuff at any one location to cause a significant delay in updating only that location.
Another quirk/bug that I suspect is related to large inventories, is FPS drops/lag when damage, of any form, occurs on your ship.
I've tested damaging the ship on multiple characters and only one character reproduces the same FPS drop/lag, and that character has the large inventory, while other characters have a significantly smaller inventory.
I've also tested graphics settings, defragmentating the HDD, start-up settings, and active programs; neither have an effect.
It is most notable when a damage occurs rapidly, leading to a screen freeze lasting the duration of the occurring damage event. And, possibly reducing controller input functionality, e.g. can't maneuver when being damaged.

The individual item is updated, not your entire inventory. However, an individual item update may cause the inventory list GUI to update if it is currently visible.
"the inventory list GUI to update if it is currently visible."
The lag is happening when the inventory list is closed, and only on my character with the large inventory.
