Leviathan Texture Wierdness

Feb 14, 2006 Doukutsu link
Ok, so I walk into Sedina D-14, wanting to try a new setup for my ship... and lo and behold, I see this little item under Small Addons that is titled "Leviathan Paint Sucker." Curious, I buy it. Not long after, someone announces that there is a Leviathan in sector G-1!!! What a coincidence. I plug the sucker in, strap in, and buzz off to G-1 to try this newfangled device. Much to my joy, the device started working automatically as soon as I entered the sector! Not only did it suck the paint off of the Levi, but I couldn't even see the Levi anymore (except for the turrets)!!!

This was done with the Beta5 client under MacOSX for the record. Those bright lights are the Leviathan shooting at me.

Do you overclock?
If so your ram is most likely overheating.

I've seen the same thing 3 other times on 3 different machines. There's definitely something funky going on.

I thought I remembered seeing someone post about this a long while back. This is the first time it has happened to me this bad. I do remember one time where it was like this for about half a second after I warped in, but then I guess it fixed itself. I was getting a tremendous amount of lag at the time, but that probably has nothing to do with it.

Aha!!!! The problem goes away completely when I turn shaders off.

Resolution/texture quality/etc - nothing else has any effect, but turning off shaders does it. Looks like there's some problems with the math on that one.

Also, if it helps, some new pics of this wierd texture-misplacement when I get close to the "targeting-center" of the Leviathan (with shaders on)::

Also, I'm pretty sure others have reported this bug as well, but just in case... When I turn shaders off, I get this 'scarred' effect on the station textures.

Some of the asteroids are also completely jet-black when I turn off shaders.

Are you restarting VO when you turn off/on shaders? If not, that explains the station 'scarring' problem.

I fixed the leviathon rendering problem for beta6.

Err - you're right on the scarring thing.

Thanks for the fix!
