racing is boring
if every year they ran the olympics, indy 500, or tour de france on the basis of 'you must beat the record times or nobody wins' then nobody would ever watch or participate.
also, alot of times if theres more than one people in the
race track, it doesnt register the finish times of people properly.

Really? I actually had a load of fun racing against a friend, and win what? And as long as both people go in at the same time, it registers the time fine, if one person goes in 1 split second later, it thows the time off by 1 split second, the only way I could see round this would be to have a *bot* in the sector, that 2 to 8 people can message within 10 seconds of each other to arrange a race, then the bot does a 3, 2, 1, GO! countdown, first one to pass all checkpoints and reach the exit wins, but alas, thats for suggestions, not bugs. It actually works as advertised.
You're racing against the clock, not against everybody else, so if you enter the track late and finish late your time will still be on par.
Sure, we can have weekly/daily/whatever results along with the "all time" results. To do it right there would have to be a way to schedule events at race tracks for "beat-your-competitors" type events, with "beat the clock" events going on continuously otherwise. Like yoda says, this could be a bot.. or something else.
We'd also need a big scoreboard object and "christmas tree" lights for starting everyone off and flagging false starts.

Yeah, its about increasing your own ability to get through the tubes, or even make it to the end, its fun when you do it with someone else though.
(errrrm, that sounds bad, but only if your mind is in the gutter)
And when its a multiplayer race, who cares which time is faster, you may get in the tube first, I can hear the *HC* announcer now "and yoda makes it first into the tube, but will he make it out first, OMG, he splattered on the first corner!"
/me rushes off to plan a racing event, thanks Ananzi :)

In a multiplayer race, just check the log to see who crossed the finish line first. That's all you need to know.
Racing isn't boring.
You just suck.
:)
We definately need different sized tubes *bigger AND smaller* for group racing.
And I agree with the lights and timer and back up what ananzi said about the timer.
Get the timer to work right gosh dernit!

ooh ooh, what a bout a racetrack with a giant fan with rotating blades halfway through?
Suddenly I remember what the tubes remind me of!
Tie Fighter's training missions had you fly through tunnels with obstacles and targets to shoot along the way. And yes, even the big spinning blades. We should totally have a DeathRace tube.
