Subfaction/Independent Faction RP Ideas.
This post is just some ideas about roleplaying Independent Factions or Subfactions. I am sure these are not original ideas. Hopefully putting them together might stir conversation or help others.
After working to get my standing up with Tunguska I realized that Edras Command had turned into my home station. So I am now playing as a member of Tunguska Heavy Mining Concern's Troubleshooting Division (entirely created and staffed by me). Some of the ways this concerns in game decisions will follow.
-Pick a home station that belongs to your chosen subfaction. Take missions from stations belonging to your subfaction unless required for a reason that helps your subfaction like obtaining special equipment. As a practical matter this hasn't limited my movements in game.
-Trading activities should benefit your subfaction. This might slow how fast you make credits but it adds some interesting variables into trading. One method I use for a trading session is to work my way through the items listed on the Commerce Welcome page. The other source of trade destinations is the daily trade report listings for stations of your subfaction.
-As a member of a mining subfaction taking mining missions from my home station helps choose what to mine on any given day and provides destinations away from the station.
-Fighting will depend on which subfaction you are a member of but if you are based at a barracks station opportunities should be available. Also keeping your local space clear of pesky bots and Hive queens provides botting chances.
In conclusion pick a subfaction or independent faction and roleplay as if you worked for that company, concern or group. This provides an alternate to guild membership or an additional element to guild membership. This just to adds a further dimension to roleplay, you can still be patriotic and pro UIT, Serco or Itani. Possible outcomes of using this method could be a character that is an enforcer for Corvus Prime, a supplier for BioCom Industries or a miner for Orion Heavy Manufacturing. I hope these ideas are helpful.

Preferably as a temporary HIRING. Engine should support that, like, while escorting for FactionF you become a member of FactionF...

@ Alloh
You mean like when I covered a war in Guatemala, how I temporarily became a citizen of Guatemala but when I returned to the US, I was once again a US citizen?
Oh wait... thats not how it works! That would be utterly ridiculous!
Seriously... can you at least wait till the faction system is fixed before you start making incredibly obvious attempts at cheating it?

I dont see why subfaction should be at the same level as faction. I think also Faction should be looked at as nations and subfaction as company ye belong/work to/fer.
I dont see either why cos ye'r liked at a station ye should be automatically liked at another station of the same corp.
It would be richer fer roleplay to have local standings versus global standings.
Of course "local" and "global" standing should be adressed properly. For example local could override global in stations/convoys-HS, and global override everywhere else when player be lonely.
Player groups standings might be imposed by standings of the leader of the group.
so ye could be
[Serco]/[Corvus], [uit]/[Xang Xi], temporarly when ye doin' stuff fer 'em.
and for nation specific we could use some job designations:
[Serco / Serco Military], [Serco / Serco Commercial], depending if ye signed up fer military, or takin mining or trading career. Of course ye could change career path with a lil sweat.

It's good to see someone is still dealing with Alloh's stupidity, now that I just don't have the time or inclination to give a fuck.
+1 I like where BT is going with this.
Still this thread should be in suggestions : )

@RR:
No, you don't become a "company-X citizen" when working for it... but when you, an american boy, go to another country, while working for Company-X as a hauler, delivery boy, escort, technician, whatever, you are not seen as an american citizen. Instead, you are a Company-X employeee doing his duties.
And if those duties harm someone, they will not prosecute USA, but will press charges against Company-X.
That is the concept, that BT could read and understand...
If you are defending a Xang Xi convoy into Serco and kill a Itani guard/NPC/blocker who was attacking your convoy, the penalties should not go to yourself, but to Xang Xi, since they hired you to shoot on anyone or anything that treatens the convoy...
this is NOT like becoming a Xang-Xi citizen! But while serving XX, you are XX employee/contractor, and should be backed up on your actions regarding that mission.
@Lelecter: go practise your weird ritual with door knobs, back on your mama's basement, and forget vendetta forever.

Alloh I read and understood what you were getting at, it's just that... say what you will...
"If you are defending a Xang Xi convoy into Serco and kill a Itani guard/NPC/blocker who was attacking your convoy, the penalties should not go to yourself, but to Xang Xi, since they hired you to shoot on anyone or anything that treatens the convoy..."
...this is incredibly stupid. I don't care who you are or who you work for. YOU and ONLY YOU, are responsible for YOUR actions. And this idea of yours is an obvious, blatant and incredibly transparent attempt at cheating the SOON™ to be fixed faction system by working for a faction you don't care about while doing something which would normally affect a faction that you do care about.
You're just suffering from a bout of Paladinoflancealot Syndrome, the symptoms include assuming people don't understand your idiotic idea/attempt to cheat the system because they disagree with it.

If I go to another country and start murdering people, I will get in just as much personal trouble whether Microsoft had hired me to do it or I had done it on my own. "I was just following orders" is not a valid excuse. The only difference is that Microsoft would be in trouble as well (unless they denied involvement), but that would not lessen the penalties I myself would suffer.
bah ye'r all just jelly ye can't do a good PoL dance : p
You can't expect Alloh to understand the nuances of agency and how it expands, rather than shifts or limits, the liabilities created by an individual's actions. Just say something about candy and closets in bastardized portuguese, pat him on his little head, and continue real discussions like the little banana republic-ian isn't there.
