You engaged in combat and now you are not allowed to run!
You are in guild [xyz], and guild [xyz] has rules of engagement, and those rules of engagement are for my advantage!

Every one has a different idea of honor. But in some cases, the ideals expressed are plainly self serving, and completely without merit.

Chasing someone down and attacking them, and then demanding that they not run if they shoot at you in self defense, is a plainly self serving ideal.

When you run from me, I call you a coward. When you gank me, I call you weak. But unless some form of deception or betrayal is involved, I rarely talk about honor.

But I have noticed some players swinging the honor word about very liberally. They define your honor to their own purpose. They are allowed to engage you in non consensual combat, but your honor is the one at stake, not theirs. They are allowed to chase you, hunt you, shoot you, grief you... but your honor is the one in judgment. How convenient... for them.

I am one of the most hated characters in all the galaxy (if not the most hated in the galaxy). And here I am, having to give a speech, on "honor".

I have said it before, and now I will say it again: "There are no rules to non consensual combat, and the aggressor has no grounds for complaint".

If you show up in border patrol, you are consenting to combat. If you show up in grey... well... that is a grey area (so to speak).

If I attack a [smurf], and he responds with swarms, that is the nature of non consensual combat.

There are some very lame tactics (intentionally dieing in bp by any means other than at the hands of a bp'er is lame). But short of betraying the terms of consensual combat, honor has very little to do with it.

Hmm, I may regret saying this as perhaps Roda will seek to demonstrate why, but I can't understand the idea of Slane being "one of the most hated characters in the galaxy." He's been nothing but honorable in his dealings with me and I spend plenty of time as a trader in grey space. And yes, if you attempt to pirate me or my escort ships you should expect swarms, missiles, the kitchen sink. It's good business. The only honor a trader worries about is getting his cargo to the station.

Roda, there has been numerous times you pissed me off. Mainly because you are better than me, and I can't do anything about it... But I agree wholly with you on this account.

I'd like to think it wasn't all my fault but ... I can't be sure. The night he claims I attacked him unprovoked is kinda hazy (Serco Ale and all). I must say though, He is definitely a pilot I wish I'd not pissed off.

In some aspects I dislike Roda in others I agree with him a lot. I've had many chats with him in the past and I've had fun in our fights throughout gray. I think Roda has lost the title of least liked in the game to some other people as of late.

...and all this time I thought it was just Roda trying to best me at 'Kill-the-ITAN'.
