using the /displayshippos command, how would one navigate?
the top line is position in the sector, but i can't seem to only change one number
could someone please explain the numbers to me :D

thanks -- cam

I'll leave it to the devs to explain the numbers, but the short answer is that you are not expected to navigate by /displayshippos at all. It's a tool for figuring out bugs and is not terribly useful in the course of regular game play.

Now, sit back, relax, and await the obvious "displays hippos" remarks.

Tee hee. He said hippo.

Hmm, breaking it apart, it seems as if it's meant to mean 'display ship pos', or position. Tee hee. You guys are silly.

No, it displays hippos! All the numbers display the number of types of hippos, like green ones, and so forth.

it goes:
green,red,purple
green,green,orange:total

I've tried this in game and have yet to see one hippo displayed. (Wouldn't want to disappoint FM now, would we?) ^.^

Odd, did you turn up your hippo display quality in options -> video?

yeah really dude, how the hell can you miss the hippo? it's like RIGHT THERE

i thought everyone could see the hippos :)

seriously tho, changing only one number is almost totally impossible since you have no point of reference to align yourself in such a manner as to only thrust exactly on one axis.

Do /query video hippo_input_sprocket3.2 :P

Input sprockets...blech. I remember those from my Mac days, when I was poor and deluded. However, resexcellence.com is a very cool site. I must say.

I'd actually like to make what is now an "offtopic" comment -- /displayshippos can be used to plot a course in some scripts, in fact someone wrote a successful script that could go from sector to sector trading.

The layout is (to the best of my knowledge):

X Coord, Y Coord, Z Coord
X Bearing, Y Bearing, Z Bearing: ???

Really other than debugging, it's only useful for finding out how far away you are from the center of the sector.

heh the second 4 numbers are a quaternion defining your direction/roll.

it might be possible to interpolate the reference point of the system by dislocating a few hundred times, always noting the numbers from the command, your speed, and a reference point you set (a piece of cargo). too bad i have no time to do that.
the few hundred times are necessary because the average dislocation speed or the distance you dislocated from your reference point are measured and hence inaccurate. you can only measure one thing (speed or location) at a time because of the uncertainty principle (it applies in this case, i think).

toshi dont make it that hard to understand:

just state that you are meaning it, that means ":D": taking an average to get out some excessive distortions :D

If you dont get any of this explanation then take a look in a statsitical book and take a couple of glimpses i nit, youll understand it then ;).

cheers

Ask Romirez. He made a self-navigating bot, so he must udnerstand it.

Romirez made a trade bot! It like, traded by itself!

Yup. And when he told me to kill it, I failed miserably...

display ship pos(displayshippos)

Display ship position. Has nothing to do with hippos. (I hope)
