Hello. Even though I've only played my 8-hour trial, I like the game enough that I thought I would make a ship or two for it:
Presenting the Serco ship Honos (or Nerio):

This is what I have of it so far. It's 50 meters, so I figured a budget of 3000/3500 triangles. It's at 2420 right now. When I'm done with the game model, I'll make a high poly version for normal baking. Before I do this though: Is this, stylistically, suitable for VO?

Hi and welcome!

I like the overall Serco-ness of the model. Currently all the ships are symmetrical, though this may be a polycount or collision mesh issue rather than a stylistic one. Symmetrical designs would not matter in deep space, and I would assume that Sercos would be less concerned with sleek aesthetics than other nations.

Why do people keep designing non-symmetrical ships? It most certainly would matter in deep space. Mass distribution would weigh heavily on propulsion and structural integrity.

"Why do people keep designing non-symmetrical ships? It most certainly would matter in deep space. Mass distribution would weigh heavily on propulsion and structural integrity."
I checked it I modeled, It's symmetrical enough that it doesn't matter. Besides: A LITTLE assymetry is good, though I would agree that EVE style assymetry is just a BIT too much.

That's part of the reason I'm asking if it fits. I could easily go back and make it symmetrical, but I thought a little assymetry wouldn't hurt. Glad it looks Serco, I had a picture of the Prometheus up as reference.

Exactly my thinking. All that matters in space is that the center of thrust is through the center of mass. I also figured that the Serco LIKE brutal, agressive industrial-ness.

As for the link: I have both threads favorited on this computer.
I'm perfectly willing to sign over the rights to it once it's finished.
As for the polycount, that's where I had to do some guesstimation: I figured that since it's around 20 meters longer than the largest non-capship ship, I figured it qualified as either a light capship or something in between a fighter or a capship.
The way I see it, there are a few niches to fill, and I'm trying to do that with this.

I like it, looks like a medium trading capship if properly textured it would totally be worth putting in game.
Assuming you can get this (or others) to GS specs, I say go for it... we need more ships. And yeah, it does look like a large transport ship. Good job on making it look "Serco" too.
GS specs?
It seems like I got something a bit right with this ship. Hopefully, when I get it textured, which will certainly take longer to get the UV sorted out and painted than just modeling even the high poly model, I'll be able to do as good.

Thanks.
It's not just a matter of "as good". It is also a matter of "compatible."
Also, I don't think your ship looks very serco.

GS=Guild Software, the folks that made VO.
Well, there's only one ship that I know of that is definitely Serco. All I did was extarploate from that. If you don't like it, fine. Others do. Thanks for your opinion.

It's also about being better than most of the current ships, rather than just "as good", because many of the current models are in need of updating/replacement as they're very dated by today's standards.

In other words, make it as good as hell. Meh, I'm used to those kinds of demands, I contribute to Infinity: The Quest for Earth.

When I said "as good" I was talking about doing as good with the texturing as I seem to have done with the modeling.
I don't intend to replace anything, merely add to it.

So, when you say you intend to add to the game, you mean you actually, seriously believe your ship will make into VO?
If the Devs like it. If it doesn't, it doesn't. End of story. I'll just use it for my own purposes if it doesn't get in.
Oh thank god, you're not one of those birther crazies.
Also, if you're looking for ideas for your textures, the vulture is, according to lore, a serco design. It also has two different texture sets,

The Devs don't object to player submissions, Inc was even talking to Xico about ship design a while back... then Xico was presumably murdered by cannibals, as he was never heard from again.

You mean a noob that thinks he's all that? Oh, I know exactly the kind of guy. We've had to deal with that kind troll over at Infinity recently. Crazy actually circumvented a permaban to keep trolling.

I think I have a pic of it saved. I had suspisions, but wasn't sure. Thanks.
