Twice now I've been in, what I thought, was a save zone (like the NFZ) and have been attacked by pirates.
Both cases, I was fired upon before knowing what was going on. One I was actually in the joystick configuration screen when my entire desktop started flashing red. I ended up running for UIT space just because one more hit and I was done for.
I really find that pirates are not nice to newer players. I now know how to pay them, didn't at the time, but when you have both hands busy dogging missile's who has time to type the commands to pay! Someone actually told me last time to cut the throttle so the pirate knows your going to pay... which would be fine. But when there is already, what looks like, 20 missiles on your tail, stopping to me doesn't sound like a good idea.
I swear... when I get better at this... I'm going pirate hunting! Forget hive skirmishes and hunting queens. The pirates are my target! *wink*

That's the spirit!
Pirates suck! Kill them all!

That's not a pirate. Surely you know the difference between griefers and pirates?
Pirates sugarcoat it as roleplaying?
I do what I can, MikeyCarter, I do what I can.
Love and megaposis,

P.S. Strat, your wiki is sadly out of date: you need to take Dr. Lecter off the inactive list, add Trakus Shar, and update [CHRN].

that made me lol irl, lecter :P
The way some of these pirates work...is no place is safe for you. They will take a faction hit just to get a kill. They don't care...It's how they have fun.
Now granted...it's not the greatest way to encourage people to stay in the game...but whatever....No one's gonna change their minds any time soon. hehe We just have to deal with it...and move on.
I tend to enjoy when they camp a station waiting for me to launch...Makes me feel important enough that they will waste their time waiting for me. :D
They pay their sub fees just like the rest of us...I hope...unless they've found a way to bypass that...hehe
I don't like the way certain people play....and I will not mention anyone by name, but it's their right as paying customers. :/

/me adds MikeyCarter to the "doesn't even deserve a hail" list.
Next ; )
Next ; )
I always thought it meant "No Firing (back) Zone" :D
ye mean ye can't fire in the back while in that zone?
eeeewww
that would sux : )

They can fire back, and I like it when they do: instant SF on em, and no faction penalty for me killing them after they violate the NFZ!
Seriously though, if you guys would pay up when a well-known pirate has your fatassed tradeship dead to rights -- whether that be in your own nation space, inside a NFZ, or right as you undock -- there'd be a lot less of this "griefing" going on. Instead, you guys keep balking at very reasonable requests for payment, and that forces our hands: if I say 'your money or your life' and you tell me to go fuck myself, I've gotta kill you. Otherwise, next time I ask the same question, I surely will get the same answer from you. And when I've gotten the same answer more than once, I'm going to stop asking.
This leads to the question: why not pay? I have multiple people tell me every time I fly that they "won't every pay pirates" and that I should go ahead and either destroy or inflict 97% damage on their very expensive ship because they're so rich that "credits grow on trees and don't mean anything." I alway oblige them, and I work hard to be sure my faction standings and procurement mission stockpiles are high enough to allow me to kill even POS traders wherever I have to.
Two things. First, there's a contradiction there: if credits are unimportant and grow on trees, you may as well fork over the 50k, 100k, 150k, or (assuming yer in an XC carrying something valuable) 500k that we ask for. Often times the rate is negotiable--if I ask for 150k and you point out that you just undocked in an empty moth from your home station, I'll probably lower my asking price to something far under the replacement cost and we can both go away richer. Me with your credits, you with having avoided the full cost of a loss that I promise I will inflict on you if you don't pay.
Second, and this is where I want to gauge my fellow pirates' sentiments, I think it's high time that traders learned that there are no exceptions. By this I mean that you don't get to give me the finger when I catch you in Dau because you don't mind taking the loss then, but still get the option to pay when I catch you in Odia with an XC full of sunflares. I've been getting that a lot, and I don't think we should tolerate it anymore. I don't mind letting you pass for only 500k knowing yer carrying 1.5 million credits worth of Corvus holo discs in a 150k credit ship, but only if I know there's a good chance that I'll run into you elsewhere and that you'll pay me a cut then, too. Otherwise, I'm better off killing you and selling the loot; as long as I'm on that topic, thank you, Los Rimertos, for your recent generous donation to [CHRN].
I've had a good pirating relationship with a number of traders, and I wouldn't think of interrupting their trade routes by popping them, even when I know I could make a few million quick credits off it. If you get a hail from me when I catch you in Dau, you'd better pay me a reasonable fee if you want to be afforded the courtesy of a hail when it does matter to you.
The two most active pirate guilds, [CHRN] and [CLM], should, I think start maintaining an easily accessible list of "Do Not Hail" traders, maybe in the RP forum. Any trader who refuses to pay a reasonable rate and who is instead destroyed or forced to pay for a full repair, should have their name, ship, and requested rate posted for all to see. When that person is inevitably later caught by a different pirate trying to get from point A to point B alive, they can then be killed. Will this require us to spend more time hauling and selling than the simple "Pay me credits for passage!" approach? Short term, yes. But long term, I think it would serve us well.
Finally, I don't want to hear about griefing from any one of you that has refused to pay. My business model revolves around inflicting losses on those who don't pay for protection...don't blame me for your losses when you refuse to play ball.

" CHRN Hails"
Now there's a headline for UIT action News......
Now there's a headline for UIT action News......
I think we've pretty firmly established Ecka Estenk as a prime candidate for the "Not worth a hail" list, for the reasons put forth in Lecter's post. Why is he whining about not getting hailed?
I don't pay because I'm bored and looking for entertainment!
I'd forgotten about you, CP. Thanks for the reminder.
Am I the only one that sees "MileyCyrus" when looking at "MikeyCarter"?
Yes.
But it looks almost exactly the same!
