The turrets are reasonable deadly at close range, but they quickly become little more than an annoyance past that. In a spam rag I managed to kill 3 in a single pass. On an additional pass, I flew right by the station and intercepted an incoming xc. I used a single volley of gems to verify a score. A spam rag full volley would do over 19k damage.
It looks like the turrets are spread out too far. Newbs will run to the station for safety and traders will try to dock. I think the station's nfz should be the primary concern of turrets. If you could pull them in to about 1km from the station, I think that they will be more effective at defending the station itself.

Personally I think the turrets should be permanently mounted on the outside of the station at key points... if you increase their rate of fire and velocity significantly, they's be dangerous within 3000m, and leathal within the NFZ. It would virtually elimate faction-hated presence in the NFZ, and make it a safe haven for friendly ships.
Yeah, I'd say make them a lot better. They're stationary after all.
Killing them won't do much, seeing as they respawn in 30 seconds :P

Well, they are more effective that the sf if your victim is wise enough to run towards the turrets rather than the docking bay, so meh, whatever. Faster fire rate might be an idea though.
There are a bunch of changes that'll go in before they're actually considered threatening. This is just a test.

For the mining medals, does the count start at 0 from when you put it in? IE, do I not get credit for my over 500 cus of helio that I mined a year or so ago?

Yes, turrets with rails...mounted on the station where there'd be a generator large enough to power them. The station would make a good, stable platform for long distance shots. Add this to the other turrets with shorter ranges. Any good defensive system, even a computer network, is based on defense in depth.
