It bothers the hell out of me thought id try and see how others feel about it.

edit topic was supposed to be:

- station prevents someone from connecting an addon if they
don't have the required licenses

Do you want to be able to buy weapons at station and carry them as cargo?
I'm sure that will be Really Soon now

No, he's UIT and wants to equip n3s.

He can't, either because he didn't help the winning side in CtC this week or because he's UIT.

I'll repeat what jexkerome said: "One other thing I noticed, in regard to "station prevents someone from connecting an addon if they don't have the required licenses". Now, I like this idea because I know caveats are coming, BUT, today Jayce, who's 7/7/6/8/0, tried to equip a neut3 and wasn't allowed to [...] If I simply HAD to use N3s I'd complain, but since I consider them a novelty, rather, I'm not put off; [...] But people WILL whine about this, specially since I already saw some doing it."

My opinion is the same.

Hmm, I agree with the overall Idea of not being able to equip things until the right licences are obtained.

N3s are in a slightly different category , in that they were originally available to ctc winners , and not to uit players. However , N3 s have been for some time dropped by unaligned pirates, and it is from that source that UIT players such as myself have got them, but can no longer use them.

Personally, I am happy to put up with this as a transitional phase in the game. One solution would be to make the unbots drop some other type of weapon which is equipable by uit players with sufficient licences.

In the Meantime I shall practice with Gauss......

I think they should be able to connect them in grey space how ever. And idealy they could face fines if they flew the ship into nation space like that.
Jul 22, 2006 Aleksey link
I think N3s could be just fixed so anyone could use them.

Though... if you could use them only after participating in CtC maybe that would restore CtC's affinity? Because stockpiling N3s doesn't work anymore... and that is good IMHO (although my Itany alt has hundreds of them stockpiled)

if you manage to find a weapon (or kill someone higher and take it) you should be able to use it. regardless.

the liscense should only prevent you from buying them not equipping.
Jul 22, 2006 Aleksey link
And if you manage to ask other player to buy a weapon at station and give it to you?

In other RPGs you can buy any item, but can't use it if you don't fulfill requirements (in Diablo at least)

I had already posted this on another thread, a few weeks ago, but I can't find it now.

The thing will work as follows, according to the Devs:

1. You will be able to carry weapons and batteries as if they were commodities. That means a mothfull of aaps, for example.

2. In order for the above to happen, they will first stablish the current limit, i.e. stations won't equip an addon you're not licensed to use. Why? because they are sensitive to those of us that had to actually work for the Licenses required to buy these puppies. Plus, it will help the idea of the black market, as explained in the next point.

3. Once the above is set, the license rule will be changed. "Lawful" factions(at this moment I guess Serco, Itani and UIT) will keep the rule as is. "Not-so-lawful" and "unlawful" factions (the Corps and Corvus) will allow you to equip the addons for a fee, which will vary from faction to faction. So if you have "illegal" weapons, greyspace's the place to be.

The end result will be the same as it is now, i.e. people congregating on greyspace. It will also make it harder (though not impossible) for complete newbs to go around in uber setups, the argument that "n00bs will lose them quickly" notwithstanding.

I personally like it, and can't wait for them to finish, so I advice patience and that you people STOP WHINING.

THAT was actually what I'm trying to say for... lemmy count... 6 posts!

Golden words, juicy, someone should print them on paper and cover their walls with it

I think teh overall picture is to eventually make it so you can equip em in grey space, like joyce said, but not in nation space, so reallly, stop whining! :P
Jul 22, 2006 mdaniel link
How about this: you CAN equip if you dont have the required licenses, but the station guards and seekers will come look for you, because you are doing something illegal. :)

Maybe someone could get a message: "Are you sure you want to equip these items to your ship? You do not have the required license levels. Equipping your ship with illegaly aquired items or items for which you do not have a license will make you subject to law enforcement persecution." hehe.. then click YES and go out and have fun while undocking being chased by the guards. :)

I really don't get anyone's objection to using weapons beyond your level. Each and every argument I have heard is specious and illogical.

Dumb argument #1: "I worked hard for my levels. Noobs should too!"

Counter: Do you really think that noob is not going to work hard just because they are lucky enough to find an AGT? What is a noob going to do with that weapon? I'll tell you: wander into hive space and try to take on a bunch of bad guys they aren't capable of handling, get fragged, and LOSE THE WEAPON. Problem solved.

By contrast, if a noob plays his eight hour trial and gets a bunch of crap he can't use he probably going to get discouraged and leave, ESPECIALLY if he busts his ass to take on a high-level hive bot or pirate, actually wins, and then gets to sit there and look at the pretty new toys since he can't actually USE them. Hell, I can't think of much that would make me leave the game faster. That's why I stopped playing that godawful Baldur's Gate spinoff Champions of Norrath.

Oh, and by the way, when YOU were working oh-so hard for your levels, didn't you have the advantage we just took AWAY from the noobs? What you really mean is, "I enjoy being at the tippy top of the food chain with superioriorior weapons and I don't want company up here."

Dumb argument #2: "This is all in preparation for the new economy."

Counter: Absolutely. Who has the least amount of cash in the game? Noobs. How does an economy work? Supply and demand set the relative cost of an item in accordance with its perceived value to the individual consumer. If the price of high-level weapons is set high enough, such as by players smuggling and gun running, Noobs won't be able to afford them ANYWAY. (Wander out on the street and find out the going price of an MP-5. You can put the down payment on your HOUSE instead. Why is it so expensive? Because they are illegal, even though the guy selling it to you is certainly not going to ask you for your firearm safety certificate.)

This isn't HELPING the economy, it's HINDERING it, like all legal restrictions do.

Dumb Argument #3: "Noobs shouldn't be able to buy weapons beyond their level."

Counter: Okay, then let's abolish grayspace, which has been selling weapons 1-2 levels lower than the requirements as long as I've been playing. Additionally, no one said anything about Noobs buying these things from stations. Noobs would have to a) Find a player willing to sell them the weapon. b) Come up with enough cash to interest the player in selling the weapon c) Travel to a location, likely a dangerous one since this is an illegal trade, where the exchange can take place, and d) Hope like hell that the player they are buying from is honest.

Oh, and e) Hang onto the weapon. Considering how easy it is to get killed in this game, I don't think a noob is going to have an AGT or a Hive battery longer than a half hour.

Oh, but since the noobs can't use the weapon, that RP attempt has vanished like Kaiser Soze. Go back to running the advanced mission and ganking Tycorps and then you can just pop into the local weapons shop and buy one on your own without ever talking to another player.

Absolutely Asinine argument: (I wish I could render this in the inarticulate AOLSpeak in which I first heard it, but my English teacher would roll over in her grave.) "The only people whining are the people that are running a bunch of noob alts. The real noobs don't even know those weapons exist."

Counter: Wrong. I hate this because it inhibits role play by making gun running pointless. Why would someone pay a player to carry a cargo of AGTs to Sedina when they can walk into a station and buy the damn things? I have one alt that I rarely use. I haven't logged in as "Legin" in about two and a half weeks, so that argument is about as specious as one can get. People are complaining because no one asked for this, except for one minor thread several weeks ago. More people have asked for cloaking devices, shields, and mission editing in the past fifty hours than have asked for this particular change in the history of the forum.

The person that said this is also a pirate, which would explain much about why they wouldn't want a newcomer using effective weapons.

I remember playing Baldur's gate and finding a +4 Longsword when I was a third level character. I remember the excitement of being able to use it immediately, and not having to leave in in one of almost a hundred stations (hopefully not forgetting which one) until I was high enough level to actually BUY it. What is the point? If I can BUY the damn thing, why would I risk my ass out there SEARCHING for it? Why would I ADVENTURE as a low-level character when I can do relatively safe missions and then just plop down some cash?

I trust the Devs, but I think that this is not a good addition to the game.

Well in your opinion it sounds like you want to get rid of "levels" alltogether...

Not at all, Dan. Levels are an important restriction to the game when it comes to purchasing equipment from STATIONS. The way they were Thursday, however, they did not interfere with a players ability to utilize equipment he had FOUND. Those are game rewards.

"I'll gladly let you use that Hive Battery Tuesday for a hamburger today." DNC. Does Not Compute.

I want to be able to equipm the N3s I collect. For one thing, the UIT don't have ANY special weapons, and can't buy N3s. The only way we get to use them is smashing bots. It's silly to not allow us to equip them. I understand the levels thing, but N3s are a different catagory. I also have a couple collected UC batteries I'd like to keep using.
Jul 22, 2006 Aleksey link
Nigel, I've joined this spring and I didn't have a lot of advantages which were taken away. But I never whined about it. You know that this game is still in beta stage, so it's likely to change. You know, when we will get a new economy, you maybe will not be able to rise funds as quickly as you can now, so old players with their precious millions of credits will get a HUGE advantage. Is it a reason not to introduce new economy?

But that is not actually the main point. Soon we will be able to load weapons as cargo. That is what I'm looking forward to, because transferring weapons 1/2/4 at a time is whery annoying thing. Now let's assume you will be able to buy weapon at a station and give it to any player. Then why killing queens for getting megaposi? Why working on pk or mentor badge? You can ask a veteran player and he will bring you a mothload of any weapon you need. You can be KOS for Axia and obtain loads of AAPs. You can fail in CtC but be able to use N3s.

THAT is what behind #1 "dumb" argument. I already mentioned that it will be harder to raise levels without getting medium pcs from denteks. But we can live without it. Or go to greyspace (soon)
Jul 22, 2006 Klabbath link
Alek;

No, you've got it backwards. Why would I bother to pay YOU for a weapon I can get at any station once I have the levels to use it?

High powered guns only have value to those that can USE them. Any player that cannot use them is no longer in your potential customer base.

Look to VO as an example. Had they released the game solely for the PC, they would have limited their potential customer base. They were smart and set themselves up without foolish limits, so now they have more customers in the Mac and Linux crowd.

Do you really think a veteran player is simply going to GIVE a noob anything he asks for? These same veterans are fighting tooth and nail to take away this small advantage, and you think their cups will runneth over with altruism? No, what WOULD HAVE happened is that a Noob would say, "Anyone got a megaposi? I heard those rock! and the reply would have been, "I have one for 1.5 million credits." After which there would have been a long silence before you heard, "I have 2,356."

Now the Noob won't even ask. He can't use it, so what's the point of you carrying it around the galaxy to sell to him? Your only customers are going to be people that can buy it at any station already. Might as well fill your hold with grape jelly, because it'll certainly sell faster.

As firsm or Breazle. They were the local black market players. They sold Law Neuts for 10k a piece. And even at a noob level, 10k is nothing.

Hey, I have an idea... how about we wait at least a week and see where the devs are going with this before jumping to conclusions and making reactionary posts that are A) least likely to produce any helpful feedback and B) have a 90% chance of starting a flamewar.

Bear in mind that this is going back to the way things have been for most of Vendetta's post-release history, and it could be a mere precaution for soon to come features. A step along the way to something better.

I agree it would be nice to use the spoils from fallen enemies but... let's just wait and see. A few months ago we didn't even have spoils from fallen enemies.
