Big ships... Guns and Pilocy

Jun 17, 2006 Shapenaji link
So, the new ships are coming along great.

However, I can't help noticing that in terms of content, it seems the stats change, but there's really only 1 way for players to interact with larger ships (2, if you consider the upcoming ability to pilot a cap ship)

Is manning the guns of one of these behemoths really the extent of it?

There need to be a lot more controls, so that a player can really connect with the ship they're in.

A two seater attack vehicle would be a nice place to start. You have a Pilot and a gunner.

Something, perhaps, about the size of a centaur.

You would only be able to fully utilise that when VO has a larher playerbase, mgl.

Gunships would be so flippin sweet.
Then of course asteroid fields or something would have to become alot more challenging to fly through so that the benefits of a 2 person ship are fully utilized and fun.

lol.... I just got the craziest image in my head.. :

imagine Lecter in a prom, and smittens in a valk; then lash the two ships together with twine, and see if they can function together...... two-headed monster, anyone??

I boarded a HAC in the Border Skirmish last night and blasted Teradons to great effect with the big gun. It was fun (for me at least). If you could get that HAC fully manned with players you would have one mean killing machine. Alas, I was the only pc player in the mission.

I do still look forward to being able to navigate the capital ships someday.

I'd love to see a ship about half the size of a trident, but half the armor as well. Reasonably manuverable, maybe a little more sluggish than a centaur and bristling with turrets. Like kix said, a gunship. Player pilotable of course. Like an anti-fighter frigate pretty much.

i want the biggest damn warship ever imaginable!

NO maneuverability, NO speed, just LOADED to the tits with weapon ports. big ones, small ones, (ones that climb on rocks...) every inch of this ship should have a weapon port.

now on a side note.. it should have cargo space. not some measly 450cu's not even 650cu's.. i'm talking 1500cu's of space!

this machine will be the ultimate trader's ship! it may not move fast, and pirates may attack it, but it WILL hold it's own!

not to mention the mining capabilities this thing could have... MU-HAHAHAHA!!! flash-fry a buffalo in 15 seconds! helio roids, xith roids, who cares what it is, it's gonna be over 800 K in less than 1min. MY GOD!!!

We've already discussed your idea, drdoak. I'll get the link in a minute. Here:

"kinda" what the teradon is. But the teradon is much bigger and much less manuverable (as well as much more powerful) than what I'm talking about.

? I dont recall a huge cube in HGG?

It will be nice to create ships that have various methods of combat, in all honesty, as it stands everyone fights almost the same, granted there are variations, and tatics, but in general all combat is conducted in some fairly predictable patterns, it would be cool to find a way to force different ships to use wildly different tactics. I'm hoping multi-pc ships will make that more of a reality.

In HGC the vogons are the ones with the huge cubes I believe, if I remember correctly.

Nope. They are described as large yellow ships and they "hung in the air exactly like bricks don't".

Cubes as ships have been seen in ST:TNG but other than that... I dont recall.

In movie that were huge cubes, and if I remember correctly they weren't even yellow...

Yes, something were transferred from book not so accurately but don't say the movie sucks entirely until you've seen it!

Back to topic: yeah, it would be fun to watch a Big F... Thing covered with cannons like hedgehog, especially when it will shoot... pity you will not watch it for long :D But besides fun what do we need it for?
