It means they are going to reset every thing, so you lose all your money and levels.
Just kidding, but I knew you were thinking thats what it ment. It means they are setting up the new dynamic economy that will lead to crafting, and will work better with the new missions and hive, or so I have been lead to believe.

Thanks Corbin for the info. You almost gave me a heart attack though (you must be serco :)
What can I say, I enjoy screwing with your little Itani heads. :)
Will the new Lua scripting stuff be part of the UI upgrade in a few weeks?
The short term economic changes will mostly be a rebalance of prices. Mostly changing numbers. Adding a more dynamic basis to it will be a little longer term.
The faction changes I referred to are basically mutual exclusions to deal with Serco/Itani standings.
I'm not sure if we will expose the Lua for the UI on the first release, but it is something we're working towards and Ray has implemented the new interface system with that in mind.

well if the economy does become more dynamic, I think that definitely a way to keep the economy working properly would be the NPC traders. If one good is overtraded, they can pick up the slack, and start moving overstocked products around, and if player traders keep up with the movements of the NPCs, they'll find new, untapped traderoutes. But that's more long term.

are you going to reset the faction system? Alot of Itani and Serco have great facction standing with the oppisote nation. If you don't reset the standing and no one else can get those good standings, the people who have good factions with both nations will have an unfair advantage.

Could we get a list of all the diametrically opposed factions?
Like... I know there's Itani/Serco and UIT/Corvus... but aren't there more?

im sure they wont need to reset standings the system will probably negate standings that are now made impossible by nation...or....if you are heavily allied with corvus or serco it may tank your itani standing, who knows!
Perhaps they'll let us pick. For example "Your current standings represent high standing with both Itani and Serco. Recent diplomatic negotiations have made such standings impossible to maintain. The time has come to choose a side." Then you choose a side and the other side goes down over the course of a couple of days (long enough to get your ships, etc, out of newly-enemy space).
Nice, very , nice. That would help ease the transition.
Woah, looks sweet. When then comes online, can someone post up some details. And by details I mean DETATLS. Mission descriptions, number of escorts on NPC's and their ships and weapons, the location of the "top-secret" base, etc. Also, I think that this will include the cu limit in stations.
Very likely you'll be seeing me soon...I wonder if I can get in on CDC elections

I hope that, in order to satisfy the more vocal PvP/BP/CtC players, that the game isn't "nerfed" for traders / PvE (anti-Hive) / potential mentors / etc. I know that there needs to be Serco/Itani opposition, but there's got to be a fair number of players out there like me who rarely participate in PvP, where a mutual exclusion would be No FunTM. 1/3 of trade destinations would be off limits. I wouldn't be able to mentor 1/3 of the new players. I wouldn't be able to participate in 1/3 of the the queen-killing groups. Great, the universe just shrunk by 1/3.
Realisticly, it is possible for a trader to be liked by both sides (maybe my Earthly Summers holo disks are the best in the universe). How this is implemented without being abused by PvPers may be tricky, but I'm just concerned that this next release contains a knee-jerk patch for the PvP crowd that's going to alienate the trader / PvE players.

That's one of the things I'd like to see as a distinct difference between the nations: I'd like UIT to be able to get decent faction standing with every faction, while Itani & Serco are more limited. The way I think would be nice is for Itani & Serco players to lose 1 point of standing for each point that they gain with the opposite faction, while UIT lose 0.5 for the opposite faction for each point of standing they gain. So Itani and Serco could get good standing with one or the other, but not both, while UIT could get good standing with both - but it would be very difficult.
Perhaps there could also be a different type of limit in place for mutually exclusive factions. For instance, you could have "Liked" standing with both Itani and Serco, but not any higher than that (ie: No Special Ships etc). If you want the good stuff, then you have to commit to a side. So traders/neutral parties can have free roam of the galaxy, but participation in the war for one side or the other puts you into the mutually exclusive spectrum. UIT might possibly have different limitations or greater freedom in this area than Itani/Serco, owing to their (mostly) neutral stance on the conflict.
I agree with greengeek. As long as the opposing factions are at a level of "respected" or "neutral", nothing happens. But when you go above that, the other faction drops proportionally. Note however, that dropping in standing with a faction does not raises your standing with the opposing one (so you can still be hated by all, like some yodaofborgs like to do, Devs know why).
