What joystick would you people say is the best for vendetta. Prefeably not much more then 20 dollars (I.E. I don't want to have to go spend 50 dollars just for a joy stick). I want to be able to do rolls and strafe, and do primary and secondary wepons fire. Basicly, I don't have to have to toucg my keyboard except for talking, and clicking on thing in stations and setting courses. Now, are there only certin joy sticks supported by vendetta?
Logitech makes good lowcost joysticks. I think those Wingman Models are around $20.
Edit: Hmm, no more Wingman... but the Extreme 3D for 29,90 looks like the one I have (and never use, I prefer mouse and kbd :) )

Yea, I was looking at that one. Will that one allow me to strafe and roll?
I used to have an Extreme 3d Ditital. Worked fine for me.
i bought a no-name $15 dual analog game pad, spent 3 hours trying to configure it (it had no dedicated mac driver, all the thirdparty drivers are useless/you don't need them at all, you need to edit the 10 buttons manually in the config.ini file). after all that, i found that it's still better to play with mouse. i guess my motor skills with joysticks aren't that good, but almost 20 years of using a mouse pays off. anyone wants a cheap usb gamepad?
I was thinking of getting the logitech extrem 3D digital Pro. I mean, it's only 5 dollars more for a whole bunch of programable buttons. I think it'd be worth it. Since it does have the R-Z axis(twisting handle) for rolling. Any comments?
i use an old Saitek Cyborg 3D:

(that's their cosmetically upgraded model, but it's basically the same thing)
the Cyborg evo also looks pretty good:
http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/cyborg_evo.htm
basically, i love Saitek joysticks because of their exceptional customizability; using only an Allen wrench (included), you can move many parts of the joystick to fit your hand. move the hand rest up and down the stick, tilt the thumb buttons to the left or right, angle the trigger forward or back...
at this point i wouldn't buy a joystick with a molded handle; ever since the CH Flightstick Pro i haven't found one that fit my hand.

They look nice, but i've got a mac.But from what I hear just about any perpherial you plug into the mac will work. Also, thoese prices are kinda steep. I think I might hold off on buying a joystick. Any other suggestions?
well, yes - i have a mac, too. they work great and are completely supported (except that VO isn't able to calibrate the throttle properly, but that's not OS X's fault.)
as for the price, well, you get what you pay for. i think the Saiteks are worth it. see if you can go to a Micro Center or some such and try one out on a demo machine!

What's wrong with the throttle calibration?
hey raybondo, think a logitech extrem 3D pro would be good for vendetta, it'd be nice of actually a dev could tell me of a good joy stick. That'd be awesome. Pretty please
i use a cyborg evo and it works great. i had a problem with my cyborg 3d gold though, it drifted a bit. but yeah the evo is awesome.
Ok i finally say this tread, this joystick looks AWSOME
http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/prod/x52.htm
it would be perfect for VO because it has everything you need in it. AND there are TONES of programable THINGS. i don't know if it works for mac, but i am sure it will if its predecessor did then i thin it will, (i hope so because i am buying it for my g5 and VO)
the only problem is is that it is 125.00$ VERRY expensive but when X2: the Threat come out i will have two space games to play
vo when i want human contact
and X2 when i want to control the galaxy.

@raybondo
wow, you're right, i could post a bug report :) oops.
when my throttle lever is at the bottom limit of its motion my throttle setting in VO is sitting at around 20%. if i use the keyboard to decrease thrust it returns to ~20% as soon as i take my hands off the keyboard.
my workaround for a while was to push the throttle all the way forward (bringing my VO throttle setting to 100%) and then using the keyboard to decrease throttle (because under those conditions, for some reason, the throttle setting stayed where it was when adjusted via keyboard). then i realized that the throttle lever was useless to me and unassigned it.
it should go without saying that all of this is only relevant under FA mode.
i couldn't find an option to re-zero the throttle lever. where should i look?
many thanks,
-hakamadare
p.s. as a side question, does anyone know how to /bind commands to the throttle axis? i'd kinda like to bind the FOV zoom to it. :)

@Knight_Of_Order
i'd be cautious about buying the X52 or whatever that insane-looking joystick system is called :) i suspect it probably depends on some sort of Windows software; make sure you check it out with a Mac before you pay for it.

Well, i was still wondering, sorry if this sounds repatatives. But would a logitech extrem 3D pro be good for vendetta?
buy it and find out (but make sure whatever store you buy it from has a reasonable return policy in case you don't like it). then post your review!
Guess i could try that, i'd still like a comment from a dev though :/
Just got the Logitech Rumblepad 2 (wired, but there's also a wireless version that's a lot heavier).
On Mac OS X, it's plug and play. No drivers. Instantly recognized by Vendetta. It works fine, but take a bit getting used to when you started out with keyboard and mouse.
It's got a mode switch button (with led indicator) that lets you configure the entire thing two different ways (say, combat more and nav mode).
The one caveat is that both hands on the control takes you away from the keyboard.
I haven't experienced the vibration in the control. Maybe Vendetta doesn't support it?
I paid 35$ CND.

So i presume that the logitech extrem 3D pro will suffice then. Excellent. Can you strafe and roll too with that?
