quick'n dirty:
if the flag is held by the same person in the same sector for a given interval of time, it should timeout (like the 10 min timeout before).
anything between 15 and 30 minutes would be nice.

Oh yeah... we have flags... I forgot...
I like it.
Why? Maybe something like 30 minutes. But who was holding the flag for that long, and what for? Why would you wan't to hold a flag for that much time?
You could be trapped ins system jumping and jockeying to get out. I've seen NPCDEF bots drive wouldbe cappers out several 10s of thousands of meters before the pilot dies.
Current Record For Driving A Pilot Out: 30,523 meters
Set By: Some capper with the Serco Flag as he ran through s12
Distance Set By: s5 Warp (capper was Itani, s5 warp was his eventual destination)
Conclusion: Capper died by NPCDEF Red 3 fire before making s5 jump. Final distance at death was 29,674 meters, he had made a U-turn before he died. Two SDFs were present along with multiple other Serco Pilots.

Please. I've gone in excess of 70km out in sector 6.
That was merely a record I was present at, I have no doubt there have been farther runs than that. That was merely an example of someone holding the flag for quite sometime without really wanting to. Nobody goes joyriding with a flag.
I thought the flag did time-out after such a long distance.
We're all vaguely referring to "?," who caps red and then spends a couple hours in 12 getting the flag through. But, CTF is going to be taken away soon enough, so just let him get the 500k. I say, if you can get past two sectors of defbots, you ought to have the money.

The flag now dies out at, like, 50k. But it didn't used to.
When is CTF being taken out? I thought it was staying around as a sport instead of the focus of the game!
It's leaving as soon as missions come in.
Ahh, I was under the impression that CTF was being left as a form of sport and proving your ability and that Missions would exist for people who were just average people.
/me goes to finally see the frigate since he still hasn't.

There are tools available to kill flag cappers that space with the flag and...say...go to the store to get some beer (cough cough).
Utilizing Eldrad's variable zoom (stolen and posted by roguelazer :P ) alias, I was able to locate "?'s" ship and destroy him while he was paying for his beer.
Enjoy capping while we have it.

The easiest way is with rglow. Just use "rglow = 1" , "gatten = 10" and "gsize = 50". All of a sudden, engines show up from across a sector. Look for the engine glow and you've found your mystery capper.
I just hope capping remains in the game. I think we all had lots of fun with it the last days. Itani rules! ;-)
as far as i know, rglow doesn't help that much, and yes, i tested it.
Works for me. :P Any change in velocity causes a brief glow of the engine. With gatten super-high, it's extremely visible.
if you know the general area of the capper, rglow helps a ton.
It seems the devs implemented some sort of limit how far you can carry out the flag. I lost it around 15k from the center. Could have been a timeout, too. I guess I have to try again.
no, it's the distance.
about the rglow: yes, of course it works if the target moves.
*if*.
