am going to start off with this is not an attempt to bash whistler.
first there should be a NON-Vo channel in vendetta online discord, this channel should have some moderation but not as much, example nothing that is completely against ROC in this channel, this new channel shouldn't be a privilege it should be accessible from the time you join the server
in this channel anything goes from another game to just talking about your day.

+1 I love socializing with VO people. I would love to talk about Non-VO stuff with you all.
Why would we want that?
The discord server is already a major amount of administrative overhead and hassle. Left to its own devices, it quickly devolves into a toxic cesspool that would dissuade most from wanting to play the game. Keeping that in check requires a lot of effort, on someone's part.
We had "broader" channel definitions in the past, and there was a substantially higher level of headache.

As would I. I already waffle on about non-VO stuff. Having a dedicated space to do so would be great.

Maybe what I need is more clarification on:
"this channel should have some moderation but not as much"
Like, exactly what does that mean? 9 million 4chan GIF memes?

+2 Faille's space/board game talk is kosher and wholesome. I wish it wasn't just VO drama.
Specifically what would NOT be allowed? It's not enough to say "nothing that is completely against ROC" https://www.vendetta-online.com/h/conduct.html because what is "completely"?
What WOULD be allowed that is not permitted in General? Non-VO Memes?

I don't have any problem with wholesome space/board-game talk.
Bigger picture, any community or chat-forum or discussion channel that is explicitly overseen and operated by Guild / VO, and "official", is also essentially an "advertisement" for the game (and the company operating it).
So, any behaviour you find in that kind of location becomes an indication of what might also find in the game.
I've joined large Discord servers in the past (various topics and communities), where I've taken a look at their recent content, gone "oh god no" and immediately bailed out. I don't want to be one of those servers.
The concerns I have around this concept stem from the requests for:
1) "some moderation but not as much"
and
2) "this new channel shouldn't be a privilege it should be accessible from the time you join the server"
The first seems kind of vague, I would need to know exactly what kind of "moderation" it is that people don't-want, to see if that's realistic.
The second is a bit weird. Like, why does "wholesome board-game talk" require immediate access upon joining? That seems mostly like a convenient circumvention for someone who gets banned, and wants to jump back in quickly on another Discord account.
Because otherwise, I would thinking there could be some kind of broader chat channel available, that would have "visibility" tied to the same privilege as 100.. then I wouldn't need to worry immediately about the contents being visible to all newbies (and negatively reflecting on the game, if everyone is chatting about Star Citizen or something).
Regardless, we're looking, at a bare minimum, at the rules required on the entire VO Discord Server as a whole, which have to be agreed-to by any new user:
- Be civil and respectful. Do not harass, abuse, troll or threaten others.
- You may not use any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language.
- You may not impersonate any Guild Software employee, past or present, including any Customer Support personnel.
- You may not violate any local, state, national or international law or regulation.
- No discussion or references to Real World Politics.
- No posting of images unrelated to Vendetta Online. (Do not spam images or memes in general).
- In general, you must comply with the Vendetta Online Rules of Conduct: https://www.vendetta-online.com/h/conduct.html

LAST TIME we had #off-topic, we had porn and links to scam from legitimate users. Frankly, I'm *still* not certain the community should have access to such a channel on the official server yet. Every time I think things are going fine, we get another flare-up of people who cannot JUST BE NICE, and even more have difficulty just following the existing rules.
I have a huge revamp of the server planned, pending approval and implementation, but an #off-topic is NOT part of it at this time >.>

-1 make your own vo discord server and moderate as you see fit. We will come then stay or leave depending on how well you moderate it. I have joined and left some made by other vo players. This server should stay the same.
This suggestion was made as vague as it is to let other people make improvements
And I had to slap this suggestion together mainly for irl reasons. And no it couldn't of been later. The amount of suggestions I mean to put in never get put in.

There is already a lot of vo-related discords out there that are not as censored; go be obnoxious in those =P.
:0, is this because of that pesky 1minute cool down or the lack of diverse channels and off topics in vo discord?
Haven't we seen enough.... unspeakable things... like luxen playing drums???

No, the 1-minute cooldown is on the 100 relay, not General. This was more about non-relay channels.
The cooldown on the relay channel was a compromise when people asked that chatting via relay be removed entirely. Which is also linked from the Topic at the top of the 100-relay channel on Discord.

I agree with Inevitable. If you don't like getting moderated, join a more lax server or make your own. I'm sure you can ask in chat for an invite to other peoples servers.
I lean towards greater shit-flinging freedom myself having to contend with looming mute whenever I engage with anyone that rubs me the wrong is bothersome, and yeah the easy solution is to go easy on the personal insults however given some of the personalities whos presence i'm graced with on a daily basis ingame it's easier said than done.

I think Luxen has explained why this is a tried and failed idea, and until we have a better Discord community, I don't think doing this again and again is gonna have much better results.

as a point of view it can work with strict rules (not so strict no one talks tho) a good example is how the world of tanks blitz eu server runs
that server (assuming I found the right one) has a LOT of staff, and #off-topic isn't treated like a flood channel that people seem to WANT ours to be. there's actual conversation being had in WOTB Europe's server.
I don't think we have enough people able to track the server throughout the day to make sure it remains as clean as theirs is.

The main reason that this post was made was because of my anger towards the enforcement of the rules. given most are vague I may not agree with how they are being interpretation of thus rules, but they are vague for a reason. that reason is because the moderation staff doesn't have time to right each and very infraction a player does into to the rules to make sure no one else does that same thing.
I may have a problem with how they are enforced, but that's something I cant control, no one but INC, Whistler, and the moderation staff can change that.
I am just a player of a small game that is just trying to change something I can't control/change.

whistler is as far as I know a volunteer, luxen.... i can only assume the same. Having a #off-topic channel may as well become their fulltime job deleting any explicit material and handing down punishments.
NOTE to forum moderation: if possible I'd like for this post to be locked.
