Make mines targetable

I can see them from 20 000 m. My radar spots them from 5000 m . I cannot target them from 500m. They are hostile objects in front of me, they should be a priority target.

That is just daft. Make them targetable.

Mines don't need to be targetable to be destroyable by blasters. If you're clueless how, hook up with CrazySpence and have him teach you.

Joylessjoker , you are a complete twat of a forum troll. 4 minutes to try and make yourself matter ? Of course I can shove a plasma HX on the nose, estimate the mine distance by experience, use the old variable zoom binds, and just pop it.

If it was anyone but me you wouldn't have made yourself look such an idiot by your instant clever dick answer, but actually read the content of the original post.

Really, go get a life.

You're reading way too much into my post, siree.

I am allowed to disagree with you. I simply like how mines are untargetable. It makes the activity of minesweeping feel more involved and challenging. Making them targetable would then make it way too easy and reduce mines' potent, reducing their usage. It's fun to lay mines, and fun to be killed by them occasionally. I don't want them to go.

Awesome! I'm glad that you are able to minesweep with such expertise. I'm not sure why you're moaning about their untargetability, if clearing them isn't a problem for you.

So, mines are probably going to become radar-concealed too. At that point, there may be some other mechanic to allow selecting them, once someone reaches a minimum radar distance, or some other mechanic to visually "detect" them and map them into your ship's computer.

But, until we implement that, I think we'll stick with what we have. I don't feel it's too great of an impediment.

+1 I'd like to see this as part of the target-able ordinance goal that I think I saw incarnate mention somewhere recently.

I do lean towards 1) reducing radar visibility of mines to maybe 1000m and 2) limiting targeting to between 250-500m ish

Edit: Never mind.

Hmm, I have bought this targetting system, and it can't see an object in a vacuum at 500m.

So, er, I'm not buying a fridge from that lot, it probably cant keep food at 5 centigrade from 0 m.

Its not an impediment INC. It just doesn't make sense.

Oh teh noes! Something in a game that doesn't make sense! I mean, it's not like we have automatically slowing objects in space, or velocity caps in space, or never ending ore sources, or anything else that only makes sense for gameplay/development reasons...

So let me get this straight. Now that your plugin that you've obscured from your enemies for many years no longer works and was never meant to work, you want the developers to build it in to the game?

Essentially you've been using a lua plugin that exploits something that was never meant to be for like 5 fucking years. Now you want a fix?

It takes no effort to drop a TU and little to no risk, but takes a lengthy amount of time and high amount of risk to remove them.

You forgot to mention the part where it's difficult to acquire TUs.

I'm amused you've been abusing this exploit for years and now that your exploit no longer works you come crying to Incarnate.

Kids.

How about making a radar addon that makes them show on radar farther away and allows targeting?

It might see more use than the nerf-heavy storm radars.

Pfft. You've literally had this hack for years.

If anyone else but JJ/Dirty/A-Dawg/Wash said this it would have been handled.

I don't know how many times I've reported you in game, yet I have never seen any administrative action against any of you.

What gives? I post a single trump meme picture in my own VOID mega thread(the largest thread in a damn long time) and I get postblocked?

As long as the 'insult' is not directed at anyone in particular, it's fine. According to Whistler.

P.S: stop trying to make everyone think the moderators are siding with all of your enemies Mi5, you ain't that important.

I thread-muted Ore. His fundamental point is understandable, but the way he's making it is accusatory and inflammatory and likely to take any useful commentary and drag it into mud-slinging. I'm not interested in that.

If you're interested in commenting, speak only to the specifics of the topic at hand. Do not comment on the person posting the suggestion, or speculate on their "true" motivations.

Here in Suggestions, I'm only interested in observations specific to the respective topic, in basically a "bubble of logic" (however far-fetch that goal may be). Inevitably, topics will fire up controversies.. play styles, pirates vs traders, guild politics, whatever.. but the only way we can cogently discuss anything is to try and put that stuff aside.

Now, I have not seen a good reason put forward to spend development time on changing this back to the way it was. As Lecter un-diplomatically pointed out, the game is full of stuff that doesn't make "sense", it is a game, and I don't think it's of overall benefit to change back. Mines, are, after all, mines. The fundamental concept is that they're supposed to be hard to detect. I favor making them harder still to detect, eliminating them from most radar.

I'm open to more discussion on this, but that's my thinking at the moment.

Perhaps if it wasn't so easy to obtain a TU launcher, and wasn't so easy to place the current max limit(for free) then I think players would have no problems with ALL mines being MUCH harder to detect. There is sound logic in traps being hard to detect.

I think the issue here is that they are being used to wall off systems with multiple players at once going max limit instead of being used tactically such as in Ion Storms.

The fix is simple, lower the total limit of TU MINES(InstaKill) to something more sane that would be placed by a single pilot to something like 4,6 or, 8 total. Perhaps we would then see more use of the other current mines accessible to us.
