premium membership rewards for duel ladder

I would like to suggest there would be monthly winners for a monthly duel ladder and annual winners as well. Each month a month of premium is given for winner of the monthly duel ladder that resets each month and six months is given to the annual winner who wins the most monthly duels at the end of each year.

+1, although I feel like six months might be slightly high for the annual prize.

It would be nice if the non-resetting long-term rating we currently have continued tracking in the background. Looking at our stats would then show two ratings, one for the monthly and one for all-time. Duels would always apply to both ratings simultaneously, but the two ratings themselves would never influence each other.

This means that only the few snobby vets who put in far too much effort into getting to the top will get the free premium time. If you're going to give out free premium time, come up with competitions that newbies would have a fair chance at.

JoylessJoker, wouldn't this help push more people to try and become better than the vets?

I do agree the time amout seems a tad high for annual, and I like the idea of tracking current vs all-time ratings.

A month free is sufficient, and make it transferable

Not really. Considering that 99% of newbies are android players and 99% of vets are PC players, there's no way the newbies can compete.

A month free is sufficient, and make it transferable

Yet another example of "gimme more stuff gimme more stuff I am a very greedy jaded vet" attitude that's rather rampant around here. Can you think about what might be best for the newbies just this once?

I think the idea of rewards of gameplay time for in-game achievements is a good thing. To Joker's point about the accessibility of new players, this could be applied to both CtC deliveries and Deneb victories.

Doing so would promote activity in both, and because both of these are PVE, they are more accessible to all users.

+ 1 to PVE rewards
-1 to duel rewards. that'll just satisfy a minority in-crowd that excels in pvp, leaving the average new player out. The goal should be to get the highest number of players spending their free-time in the game rather than stroking the egos of the addict-vets that sit in B8 :-)

I agree there should be some kind of reward for the top duelists, even though I'm probably never going to be one. The problem with it being something so valuable as free premium subs though is the duel ladder isn't hard to "cheat". Sure, the devs can pick out most cheats and reset the stats *like poor EP haha*, but that also means the devs would have to police that more too.

A gun that isn't uber, but acts like a badge - like my blue ions suggestion - sure. Free game time? Nah, too much of a temptation for those who would be willing to cheat.

I like the idea of a monthly duel challenge that is separate from the historical duel ladder, mostly because it allows people to "start from scratch"... In otherwords, duel victories are not determined by how a person measures up on a global pvp-scale, but simply from how they match up against their single opponent. In this way, newbs can stand just as good a chance at winning as a vet (negating Joyless' obvious troll antagonizing effort -- which has once again gone ignored by moderators, I might add), if they put their minds to it.

The bonus would be that it would serve as a BIG incentive for people to get better at combat.

That said, yoda is right about cheating. Perhaps it isn't a good trade off afterall (inspiring more pvp in exchange for giving out free playtime and increasing the likelihood that the devs have to police duel stats).

In short, I am for in game rewards such as extended free subs, but this isn't a good way to do it.

"-1 devs gotta eat."

Letting one and a half people play for free isn't going to have any noticeable impact on the devs' finances.

Things like this give people something to strive for, incentive to become vets.

Can you explain how Android users have any kind of chance against PC users? This kind of change is an insult to Android players.

Oh noes, a suggestion that doesn't equally benefit people who choose to use inferior hardware! The horror!
Apr 04, 2016 joylessjoker link
The hardware choice is often not under their control. Case in point: a teenager relies on his parents' budget and all they can afford for his general computing needs is an Android tablet. Not mentioning the people in Philippines, who despite being hard workers, don't earn the same kind of salary that we have that enable us to buy the PC hardware that we have.

Get your head out of the sand... And be more considerate of those less fortunate than you.

The hardware someone chooses to run VO has no impact on their ability to compete in a montly duel challenge, as I have pointed out. Mobile newbs could duel mobile newbs. If a mobile newb chooses to duel an advanced vet it's not unfair, it's simply poor strategy.

The fact that mobile users can only duel with other mobile users fairly, while PC users can duel with practically everyone puts the mobile users at a serious disadvantage. It's absurd to leave it to mobile users to figure that out, and they're stuck if a PC player comes out with a top ranking.

Let's look at the wrestling competition scene. It's categorized by weight for a reason. In the same way, it would be ludricious if there's a system that allows someone with peripherals specialized for gaming match off with a flimsy, small touch screen.

If you're going to implement a prize system for duel ladder, at the very least have the decency to separate Android users and PC users into separate ladders. Categorizing ladder by device type would be the only fair, reasonable way to go about this.

Hey, may I bring up that I suck more at PVP when using a computer than when I use a tablet? I love how the PC is beautiful to play on, but honestly I have difficulty without the free-touch interface combined with my preferred DB setup.
