Hello every body. Firstly, im typing on a tablet, so please forgive my lack of punctuation.
My character name is Nyscersul. I have been playing this game now for three years, and have paid a premium subscription most of that time. I now have an additional lite subscription as well.
My main concern is the way in which a trident has become something only available to those people who can play religiously. I would need to play so much that it would, in fact, have a detrimental effect on my real life. It seems, how the game is currently laid out that building a dent is something only achievableby those who are able to spend a stupid amount of time doing it - in three years i have still not managed to get half way.
In a lot of games, there is this whole 'pay to play' setup, where you cannot get past a certain level without adding real money into a game. Here, in vendetta, it becomes an inhibitive amount of time required instead. The current state of affairs means that new players cannot build a dent without an amount of work that borders on insanity.
So, my point is this, why should i suffer, as a player as dedicated as the rest, who pays a full sub, and who plays well, because i do not have the required time available to me? Because i have a full-time job, and three children, and a family to worry about?
The amount of time it takes to build a trident is ridiculous, and i am almost certain that every single player who has completed one would agree - given the time required, it is not worth it. Why should it demand such that it adversely affects ones life to keep up with the others? Why should it be possible for such a wide divide between players?
And most of all, why should those of us with busy lives, too busy to spend this ridiculous amount of time be discriminated against?
It seems to me that more than half of the playerbase are likely in a similar position, unable to enjoy the game to the full because the developers seem to think this requirement is acceptable. I imagine that yes, it would cause an uproar if the devs changed this, but only with the people who've already completed it. This has been a concern for a long time, and generally speaking the decision to keep the time required so damned long is only going to have one singular effect - to stunt the growth of the playerbase. It has frequently caused me to turn away from the game, a month or two at a time, just because i am so pissed off at the bloody great unassailable wall put before us.
I vote that the devs should consider ALL the players availability when re-assessing the time it takes to build a dent, and not just assume everybody can play this much.

+1 I've been playing since 2013 on and off and the one thing that has driven me away is the task of building a Trident. Even with the crazy amount of time I spend on the game, it is a Titanic and unreasonable task for what it is worth.
Given the number of tridents in the game, I'd argue that the time/effort required is not "ridiculous" at all.
Challenging. To be sure. But not ridiculous. A trident isn't meant to be an easy build or accomplishment.
Moreover, if the devs reduced the build process, then they'd have a lot to answer for to the dozens of players that *did* invest a lot of time/effort to build one.
Personally, I've been stealing dent parts since the very day they were made buildable. I'm not somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% complete and the vast, VAST majority of it is from stolen ore, fcp, ffsa, and a handful of major parts. My reactor is even stolen, so I don't have a beacon to the docks.
So, when you claim you have it hard.... I'll be very pissed if I finish the last 10% after all these years of honest thievery and occasional hauling and then the devs make it half as hard to build.

it doesn't need to stay stupid just to justify other peoples wasted time
Should be hard, doesn't need to be this hard. the end
Should be hard, doesn't need to be this hard. the end
Earn credits, buy parts, buy hauling, it can be done in a month. If you're casual about it it still won't take as long as it took the early finishers.
I'm all for Nyscersul. Ok, let's take it back to when I first started. It was on an old account, one I would not like to bring back up from the dust it lays in. Let's say I LOVED Vendetta. I cried the day dents were released. So, I decided to invest in the game by being a sub. So, I though "Hmmmm.... let's build a dent!!!" Well, long story short, I stood up all day, most of the time not even sleeping. I was SO consumed with building a huge Trident. I had so many plans..... But, the commitment started to t make its toll. At first, I started failing School- I no longer studied, nor did homework.
Then, it got worst. Since I was so consumed, I didn't interact with others. I started picking on people, and being a jerk. I hated my own family. I was lazy. It took me 8 MONTHS of no sleep. A TOTAL TIME, TOTAL TIME of 8 months!! Playing to much, I went insane. I went CRAZY!! I locked my doors, and let no one in. I constantly had my charger, I skipped school, I did everything I could possible do wrong. I went from a straight A student, to a C and D nobody. I skipped lunch, dinner, breakfast. I went starving... I was SO CONSUMEd!!!!
Then, on that's day of that 8th month, I realized how damned I was.... I completely stopped Vendetta. After 3 months, I log back in - 63% complete. I cried. And cried. And cried....... The time it took to build 63% of the Trident, ruined my life. I then rested an rested and rested. Finally, I come back as Anakin SkyWalker 1535, a fresh start. Then, I meet someone who finished their dent. It was the worst thing ever. Nothing you could do, no purpose, easy to destroy - a couple abalone could do it.
So, long story short, and to state the purpose of this essay - Tridents need to be easier, or more available to, VO players. Now, I understand, the devs are gonna get a lot of complaintes. But, how do the devs expect to have a great game, if they don't do what they need to? A dev can't just listen to the players, but what needs to be done.

In it's current state, trident is, I can only presume, still an experiment and also hardly worth undertaking the sadistic manufacturing path Raging John set out for us.
I did, however, built one.
I took some vacation time and spend ludicrous number of hours grinding everything. I had a lot of help from friends, I also bought a lot of prefabricated smaller parts and paid for a lot of bulk items hauling and managed to finish it in approx 8-10 weeks. I did not pay any pirates nor was any of my parts stolen or lost.
Anyone who went through this sadistic ordeal would be very pissed to find out that people now have it easy so I will vote -1.
I still hope that, when it gets out of this 'experimental' phase, trident will become something that at least resembles a real frigate class vessel.
In the meantime, I would suggest you propose an intermediate solution - heavy class shielded & armored ships - that would require far less tedious grinding to produce:
a) gunship - for those oriented towards combat
b) cargo barge - for those interested in trading

Quite honestly no one in TRI should be upset about the ordeal of building a dent. You are pretty much the only guild with unlimited station access and the whole idea of your guild is building hard manufacturables and selling them. Can it be done solo? sure but then it is going to take time. I believe this is one of those game components that was designed to foster team work which does in fact make the process easier. Hence it requiring conq stations to build it, taking those solo is hard.
With help I completed mine from first part to completion in a little over 3 months. I have a full time job and two kids full time by myself and managed to do it playing a few hours a night in that time frame.
So the moral of the story is teamwork makes it faster & easier. Maybe your team is the issue?

The comments about the players who have already completed the tridents is kinda stupid. Why should the future of the game be limited by the players who've gone before? But my main question to you guys who mention having completed it in two months, is this... Did you also work full time? Or do anything else? Or did you just spend 16 hours a day at this pointlesslyhard grind that achieves nothing more than waste your time? So what if some people already completed theirs, that doesnt mean we should suffer. This build tree is so convoluted that it is impossible to complete for anyone without an insane amount of time to waste. So, should i be made to suffer becausei have a life out side of the game? Because thats what it really comes down to, the only people who can complete it are the people who spend every spare minute of their time doing it. I think it is a little sad that the developers wish to consume so much time that it has an effect on people's lives. Personally, i think all this bullshit about it should be hard is wrong.... What it should be is FUN. This is a goddamned game, not a educational institution. Most estimates for the time taken seems to total nearly a thousand hours if done solo. Thats just OBSCENE. I want to PLAY my game. I dont want it to CONSUME ME.
Ironically, if the Trident acquisition was a 'pay to play' feature, it would be far more accessible than it is. The thousand hours wasted playing to create it solo are worth approximately £7000 total, and thats on minimum wage.

Having an aspect of the game essentially inaccessible to me is not acceptable. Its enough for me to think i might just quit entirely. Frankly if this doesnt change i probably will. If the developers cant be considerate of ALL the players needs, and making it fair such that it can be acheivable, why should i continue to pay the sub?

lol You may as well demand the option to purchase PK badges or the #1 spot on the duel ladder.
Besides, your premise is faulty. It's not as much time as you think if you're smart about it and make use of available resources (like hiring others). For example, the whole reactor from scratch is less than a week of 2-3hr sessions to complete. Stealing minor parts and/or raw materials make it even easier.
Hence it requiring conq stations to build it, taking those solo is hard.
Also false. It used to be essentially impossible to solo the damn things because the turrets healed/respawned at a terrific rate and had high HP. Neither is the case these days.
And now, I'll re-read Anakin's post with some popcorn, while I await comment from CD and others who built theirs back when it was ACTUALLY hard. The requirements today have been SERIOUSLY nerfed.

I know building a Trident is a huge task and OP reflects a frustration, I have read many players share. I must disagree with this, as OP wrote:
'The amount of time it takes to build a trident is ridiculous, and i am almost certain that every single player who has completed one would agree - given the time required, it is not worth it.'
My Account Info page suggests I have been online 77 days about. Over a span of 3 years that would be 12 or so minutes one day a week. A couple of minutes every few days is all it takes. I conclude you are doing it wrong, very wrong. Search the forums, chat in game with Trident owners, research better ways to proceed with your build. Building a Trident is challenging for sure. It can be, should be and for many many players has been lots of fun. Definitely better then not having one. Well worth the effort.
Edit: I build my Trident in 6 month of gaming. Even if that was all the game offered, just $60 usd. of subscription fees. Much is exaggerated in the calculations by Nyscersul me thinks.

You're doing it wrong. Two members of your own guild recently built dents. Your guild has loads of access to the stations, so there is no reason you can't build one at the moment. Think of all the dents your guild has that could help in hauling parts. You can do it.

The trident building process is such that a casual player of vo will not be capable of making a Type M.
How about a "capship rental" service, where a player can hire a capship for a certain amount of time for credits? This way, casual subbed players will be able to experience a dent without having to grind out their own.

You should have understood what you were getting yourself into prior to undertaking this project. Which, in my view, building a trident should be a diversion, or a side-of-desk project. It'll consume you otherwise, and you'll be somewhat disappointed at the end-game and quit, as many have.
If it were more achievable, we'd all be back to complaining about how there's no reason to log in, no endgame, etc..
Vo has an effect on my life, all I think about is vo...I like, I only pay to make guilds. Nycersul, I play on tablet too and have a full sub, but the sub isn't just for making a dent and trust me, it's way mores stressful worrying about the family guild you made rather than building a ship rar.
All of this fuss about GETTING a Trident. What would someone who hardly plays DO with a Trident?
The main reason i have stopped playing as frequently as i did is because of the soul destroying task ahead of me. Aside from this, why does everyone find the need to reference the guild i am in when they respond? The first post mentions the fact i am referring to the inability of a very large portion of the playerbase to have the time to complete this. Your solutions all seem to centre around getting others to help.... But what happens when help is not available? Ive been in tri a long time, and for more than half that time it seemed i was the only one there. Is this to be discussed and considered as well? Ive wasted a week at a time trying to find someone willing to help, and then, it takes twice as long to do anything because of the need to both be online... Its irrelevant. The point is, the only people who can complete this are people who essentially become reclusive. Its not just a few minutes a day - that is complete rubbish, unless you intend to complete it some time five years from now. All i am saying is that this is a rediculously long build time, enough that it truly chews any possibility of fun out of it. I feel that i am unable to complete it because of this time scale and this in itself is because i cannot spend all my time on a computer game. Why should i be forced to, to progress? And in regards to getting help, nobody is ever really willing. Im fed up with the logistics of it,and im not the only one. Every player who has attempted to build one has cursed it, and they are right to do so. Its ridiculous.
