Have been playing with a Superlight recently and it's actually sad that this ship is hardly ever used.
One port makes it slightly handicapped for pvp use and the latest version of widowmaker doesn't really help - not a trace of once 'very good' auto aim and 800 dmg and power drain just don't cut it.
IBG with dual ravens is zippier, lighter and faster then Superlight with widowmaker and packs more punch.
Manufacturing a Superlight is a pain but it's available to everyone once you complete the mission.
Most pvp-ers are now dualflarewhores or swarmers with only a few notable exceptions and sadly nobody is going to risk using Superlight w/ widowmaker in this situation so here are a few things I think might make it more appealing to playerbase:
1. Make Superlight 'insured' so if you lose one in combat you can buy it back (same as Tridents).
2. Reduce battery drain from 57 to 54 so it can be a real chaser, or heck, reduce it even to 49 so it can rival greyhound in chasing.
3. Increase widowmaker damage to 1000 and reduce energy to 14/blast.

-7 to #1. You should be ashamed of yourself.
+1 to buffing the Widowmaker.

I would at least reduce the build requirements.
I'd rather fly an X1 with a widowmaker than a super light.
/me feels ashamed, sigh.
True, if Superlight and widowmaker get a buff no insurance needed - it would be worth building.

+1 to buffing the WM atleast. Fine with me if the SL is buffed aswell, but it wouldn't matter a lot.
I have a tip about these pesky dualflares: Try to dodge them.

Lol? I consistently beat dualflare whores with widowmakers as they are right now. I'm not opposed to buffing widowmakers but your skillz need work if you think they suck right now.
Swarms+hounds are the real issue right now. Too many people run away after running out of ammo with the sole purpose of being annoying with no real intention to pvp. Simple, low reaching fruit fix: disable swarms on hounds.

The issue isn't with the swarm hounds so much. This has been an issue in VO for as long as I've been playing, whether they use a hog 2 or atlas x.
If nobody minds, I will get back on topic.
Superlight is a great little ship with a lot of potential and is almost never used. It has paper thin armor but it's very nimble and fast and it only lacks a small buff to put it back on the players radar as a valid alternative for some other high level ships.
Since it has to be manufactured (requirements are pretty steep) it really should have some significant advantage over other high level fighters - making its turbo drain similar to hound is one of them, maybe it can also have addon and cargo scanners incorporated into design?
Widowmaker is not a Superlight exclusive weapon (maybe it should be)... but if we want to make Superlight more attractive choice for at least some players it does require a slight buff in damage and energy/blast.
P.S. sorry about mentioning any pvp favorite loadouts, it was just a mindless rant, players use whatever they want and feel comfortable with and it's fine.

I'd agree with increasing WM damage to 1000 OR reducing energy use to 14, but not both.
I dont think we need any more Greyhound-class runaway ships. The Superlight is damn near uncatchable already.

I'd rather see it's standard speed and thrust improved than any turbo enhancements
+1 to buffing the SL. Given that SL weighs in the same as the Vigilant, it hardly seems "super light" as the name implies, considering that the valk has 3 ports.
Buff max turbo to be in line with the fastest ships, with no drain on the battery.
Reduce the build reqs, so we can all have some zippy pvp action.

a lot of these suggestions are band-aid solutions to the bigger problem as a whole. VO ship mechanics with how they relate to pvp need a major overhaul to be brought into the 21st century.
I think points 2 and 3 in the OP are valid but i would rather see ships having different power grids and such instead of the WM being insanely high but that is a different post.

The devs could use the grid-power mechanism to limit certain weapons from ships by making ships engines require grid power.
@pey
WM being insanely high?
You do realize that you can put 2 megapositrons on UDV raptor making it a 2400 dmg/shot killing machine.
Buffing widowmaker from 800 to 1000 dmg does not strike me as something really special if you bear in mind that because of the grid requirements you can equip only one and, in case of the Superlight, it's the only weapon worth equipping.
I am all for ships having different power grids but that really deserves a separate thread/suggestion.

-1 widowmaker. it is used, even if mostly only on valks.
+1 superlight. I do use it. it is a great bot killer. it is combat speed 75 (same as corvult), but except for the combat speed (and really cheap repairs), a valk is better.
give the superlight a built in cargo and port scanner, so that it is a viable alternative to a widowmaker valk.
any other serious buff may need to be at the expense of the combat speed.
I have killed a superlight (driven by the notorious mecha tourias), energy to energy, but i had to use a single gauss3 on a corvult (leaving the other port empty), and I would not bet money that I could do it again. In the right hands, it is deadly.

Bojan I meant it's power grid requirement being insanely high it's 18 Iirc not its damage which I agree is lackluster compared to other load outs
The biggest problem with the SL is that it is a pita to build and as a result got most of its use from players competing in the race tubes. Why risk something regularly in combat if it can't be mass produced or otherwise easily replaced. I say either significantly reduce the manufacture requirements or give it a buff that makes it even more dangerous in combat.
what about making it the "pirate faction" ship KOS with your home nation and at least one other and POS with corvus. then adding a built in cargo scanner and storm radar.

You forgot explodes in half a second against typical dual-flare and swarm spam loadouts. That's a big factor.
