Give the trident M 5 large ports beams.

For the love of all that requires absurd amount of work and virtually no payback for the effort whatsoever give the trident m 5 l ports so it can be used as a mining platform and/or ridiculous missle frigate!

honestly though 5 chained jackhammers or swarm could be usefull in BS or HS, plus filling up the 400cu hold is extremely time consuming with a single lport, with 5 it would take much longer to fill up than a miner moth Mk2. >.>

Give it 5L ports pretty pleesh, Oh yes while i'm at it it should have some better sensor arrays and stuff so group radar addons would be made useful!

I was going to beg for 3 large + 3 small ports so I could setup 3x HE + 3x HD beams, or have a wide variety of options for equipment and weapons. My team has begged me to ask for mining turrets, too.

It seems to me that storm radar should be standard equipment in any capital-sized vessel.

+1 for more pilot controlled ports.

+1 for all: a cap ship should have self and group radar extenders and mineral/cargo scanners built in.

-1 for more pilot controlled ports. I see capship pilots as a dedicated job, let fighting for gunners.
+1 for mining TURRETS, really might ones, better than any existing beam
+1 for sensor buff - but meanwhile, add a Large Storm Extender to cargo hold to check, it works for small ships.

Back to pilot's guns, maybe retrofit one L and one S port at most, to discourage cappies of being used as single-player.

+1 to scanners suggestion as well. That optical sensor gizmo you have to build for it should include some sort of fancy schmancy instrumentation.

Adding a bunch of L/S ports seems like overkill, and since I'm guessing the spin torque is pretty bad, probably not useful for anything other than mining beams, swarms or AGT.

Instead, I recommend allowing the capship pilot to fire the turrets when equipped with mining beam turrets (and possibly swarm turrets too) since no aim is required. Increasing the L port count to 2 is probably okay too.

+1 for built-in sensors

What is the grid on the Trident M?

I agree with (and I can't believe I'm saying this) Alloh. Adding Mining Beam Turrets to the game would be preferable to the addition of fixed equipment ports to the Trident M. For that matter, we could do with more flavors of Turret in general.

@RR: If a person wants to use his XC in combat, he can, it's his choice, but we should not provide him better tools for that.

@Meridian: To use mining beams, the ship should be static, stop. So, pilot can simply leave cockpit, enter each turret and activate it, then launch another private ship for mining... even a Rag can become a good miner like that.

Also, the reach of mining beam turret should be much larger, like 500m, so it can mine more than one roid at once.

Finally, remember Inc promissed many variations of trident. This is M-model. Maybe the D-model have 3L 3S 0T, or G-model have 2L 1s 2T, each with different storage capacity, engine, performance...

Alloh's got this down. +1 to sensor buff and +1 mining turrets.

Which type of trident is the M supposed to be? Trading, combat, mining, ???

Alloh, we are not talking about an unarmed cargo ship here, we are talking about an armed glorified Moth. With all the work that goes into these, it is not unreasonable to be able have the weapons to defend it or have the ability to toggle between player controlled turrets or AI controlled turrets.

Ryan, give it a couple L-ports, sure, but we want to definitely encourage group effort. It's a glorified moth right now, but when it has shields, repair/reload abilities, etc., it'll be a step up.

Side note: mining turrets should be much more effective than other mining beams, even HD's.

Nahin, I agree... we should encourage group efforts but...

A: We don't have a player base conducive to that (unless you only count PA, TGFT, ITAN and ONE)
and
B: We shouldn't discourage solo players. (One of VO's biggest strengths is that despite it being an MMO it caters to solo players as well as groups.)

IMO it really should have 5 ports granted it should be used primarily as a support vesel for a group of players having 5 ports wouldn't hurt I haven't flow one but i'm guessing it handles well enough to be used as a light anti cap frigate, turrets aren't nearly as effective as well flow light fighters specially on the trident with the huge blind spots, that's why I think 5 l ports are justified, considering its a more or less stationary target and that 5L ports is less spam than a couple of rags it makes sense,

You have to keep in mind that the turrets which players have access to are also much weaker the the standard npc turrets, basically a trident at this point is a sitting duck, more ports could actualy make it so what useful in a combatmsupport role.

Leave Trident.M exactly as is, just adding enhanced sensors (builtin Storm+Group). Consider it is the civilian mk.1. Then consider another 2 ideas:

1. Request might mining turrets. I imagine and hope that would not be hard to implement a mining turret.
Range: 500m
Rate: 2.2
Heat: 0.66
Mass: 10t
It would be easy to mine two small roids <1km apart, with two beams on each, or four beams in a same large roid sideways.

2. Open another thread to discuss next trident versions. Some roles already proposed, keeping balance. Like, internal space is Xcu. You can add optionals until fill it. All optionals sums up 3Xcu, so, choose wisely... Quick ideas:
-Miner: 5L 2s 0T 600cu noRR (IF no mining turrets are developed.)
-Freighter: 0L 1s 0T 3000cu noRR
-Support: 1L 2s 4T 360cu RR
-Assault: 3L 0s 4T 0cu RR
(stats: Large, Small, Turrets, Cargobay, Reload+Repair)

Not yet considering variations with/out shields...

The matter with the turrets available to players being weaker than those available to NPCs is a good reason to buff... the turrets available to players. Adding more ports to the Trident M in an attempt to make it more useful seems to me to be ignoring the root cause of the problem.

Also, like all Tridents, the Trident M could also benefit immensely from improved turret placement.

I think the turret placement is fine, thank you. Their is still a reason in this game that you can solo shit, so there.
