Two missions about channel 100

I helpfully also suggest two missions:

1. Kill sirtradelot, being locate the bot/ship in edras and destroy it. Corvus ?

2. the other is for the pirate bot which triggers on 'yarr'. Clearly both of these 'assets' to the vo verse prove how dumb some of your subscribers and guilds are and thus deem worthy of switching them off in a mission.

Alternatively - vo should might look into some kind of bot test for channel 100 say after x words it asks so you a silly question.

1. I am firmly anti-bot but, what would the point of this be?
2. How does the existence of these bots "prove how dumb some of your subscribers and guilds are..."?
3. Are you in an active competition with Alloh?
4. How would these missions be helpful? Apart from destroying two fairly harmless bots whose purposes are unknown to you, what would this accomplish?

Ryan to answer:

1. both bots are fair game
2. take tradealot - one might accuse the people behind it of stopping trade - thus they are retarded
3. i have no issues with alloh - never met him/her/it in game and i yes have subbed before
4. vo needs more players than even more bots take /gunner for instance.

May i remind vsky that i also suggest a captcha system. These are missions as well

Granted... bots (as with everything else) are fair game. However, a bot that has been online for even a few hours, going one direction at full speed or turbo... puts it firmly in the "un-catchable" category.

Thus these proposed missions would be an in-completable waste of time... unless you know of a secret way to catch up to something with a massive head start.

If you seriously want to contribute missions...

Tradealot does nothing to stop trade nor is it supposed to. What are you talking about?
Jan 29, 2011 ryan reign link
He seems to be implying that some players might think that the bot is somehow impeding trade. I've never met anyone who thought that. There was that one flaming idiot that thought Tradealot was a pirate run bot.

I'd argue that certain guilds both pro-trade and pirate like the status quo in grey. This makes the bot that goes yarr and tradelots idiotic insults between uit and itan space certainly proof of keeping the status quo.

Assuming sir_moronbot is a tgft thing then it makes me not want to join that guild.

You will have to wait for a final forum comment about vo one year on next month for that.

Making pcc missions is something i might do one year. However since vo is bots r us the less of the stupid kind the better.

"I'd argue that certain guilds both pro-trade and pirate like the status quo in grey."

And so do lots of guilds/players, whats your point? The status of anyone in Gray is target, the only change this has seen is the disappearance of VO's unrats.

"This makes the bot that goes yarr and tradelots idiotic insults between uit and itan space certainly proof of keeping the status quo."

I'm not sure how two bots is insulting to anyone. Presumably the pirate bot monitors traffic. Presumably the TGFT bot does too. Who cares?

"Assuming sir_moronbot is a tgft thing then it makes me not want to join that guild."

Tradesalot is in fact owned by TGFT and there are many legitimate reasons to not want to join them. I think its cute though, that you think they would some how suffer a loss at your not joining... or that they would have you to begin with.

"You will have to wait for a final forum comment about vo one year on next month for that."

Can you rephrase that so that literate people can comprehend the idea you are trying to get across?

"Making pcc missions is something i might do one year. However since vo is bots r us the less of the stupid kind the better."

Right, the presence of 4 to 5 bots qualifies VO as being overrun wth bots.

Also, you still haven't explained how a player would track down/catch up too a bot that has a few weeks/months head start. let me put it another way...

Assume both of these bots have existed for one month (they have actually existed for many but that is beside the point. Some one takes your mission. They go to the sector that the bot is in it will be (assuming a speed of 200mps) 518,400,000 meters away when you get there. Then you have to pick a direction out nearly infinite possibilities. All the while it will continue moving at its top speed.

Thus, you will never find it. Even if you knew which way to go, you would never catch it. So if you want to waste your time by all means, call you ship the Pequod and start your chase.

Ryan

Since i seem to be the only person whom seems to note the lack of human players (lot of /gunners are there?), and clearly isnt attached to the game like a third leg. Is that you can wait for my final observations.

As to tfgt needing anything also means a $ loss for the vo devs for if vo is just for hardcore players then good luck to you all.

You know, VO has a lot of folk that speak a lot of languages... is there some language you could post in other than English? This way you might have something that is legible.

You still haven't explained how to track down a target that is more than 518,400,000 meters away... or is that what we have to wait for?

Each of those bots represents a subscription being paid to the devs. Their presence hurts almost nothing in return, as long as they are few and independently run. Their existence is not displacing other people from playing, unless they are immense imbeciles, in which case they would not survive the trolls anyway. Net result: The current bot situation is beneficial to VO.

As for bot-detection measures: Absolutely not. If your brain is damaged sufficiently to cause you to think that having the game ask you dumb questions from time to time is a good idea, that is your problem, and you should probably have it looked into. Maybe they can fix it and give you back a functioning brain.

sjwest do ye write messages using google translate?
Jan 30, 2011 endercp12 link
just a reply to ryan..while i completely agree that it's pretty pointless to chase after bots that have been on awhile turboing..its not impossible..if you turn of the background you can actually see the thrusters at well over 60k out, its just time consuming and way more effort then its worth to chase em down.
Jan 31, 2011 sjwest link
Pirren I am a russian eskimo, we have hundreds of words to describe snow. At least you remind me that forums are still full of trolls.
Jan 31, 2011 ryan reign link
Ender, 60k out is a little different than 518,400,000.

Sjwest, you still have not explained how some one will catch a bot that is 518,400,000 meters away and gaining distance every second. Unless you know some magic trick (maybe some Eskimo tribal magic?) for jumping great distances, your missions will not work.

sjwest. Ты доставляешь определенных лулзов ))) I am russian, but not eskimos, and I don't need google translate to write messages in English :}

So tell us, sjwest: what's it like living with no activity above the brain stem?

Eskimo? Must be the cold numbing his logic unit.

As for this whole topic, it smells of troll. Intentional or not, some people are so full of themselves they troll with the belief they are doing the world some good.

Here's a brief point-form response:
* bots aren't hurting anyone, and they pay a subscription just like everyone else.
* sjwest's subscription will not be missed... and for him to think that others won't subscribe based on his poorly written statements is ludicrous at best.
* captcha's/questions to keep you logged in would drive AWAY more users then it would bots
* eskimo (russian or otherwise) have their own languages (Yupik languages), and I can't much imagine an eskimo calling himself "russian" or even "eskimo" for that matter (eskimo perhaps via google-translate, though not even sure google translates yupik languages). For someone to call himself a russian eskimo pretty much gives away this is actually Peytros in disguise and NOT some retarded noob. TROLL
