Please remove characters that park in sector Latos I-8 to hinder gameplay of station conquest. This is just wrong. Maybe there is a way? Here in this case: "Phlegethon's One-Eyed Get", has a character out in nowhere. Thanks

Your facts and your conclusions aren't self evident so it would be nice if you tried to articulate your reasoning. The last time we talked about bots in b8, it was my understanding that Inc and a good number of players wanted to create some kind of notification system that served the same purposes as a bot stationed there. So really I have no idea what you are talking about.

hinder gameplay of station conquest

And this hinderance of which you speak... it occurs, how?
Mar 12, 2010 Aticephyr link
I think the bot makes it easier to do station conquest since the turrets don't heal. But maybe that's not a good thing.

No Blood, you cannot have a pony! They are mine, all of them
Mar 12, 2010 Dr. Lecter link
You sure about that, Atice?
Mar 12, 2010 Aticephyr link
Nope Lecter. But it was my impression that the turrets heal (without player intervention) when the sector resets, which cant happen with a player always there.
Mar 12, 2010 Dr. Lecter link
Oh, well, if it's your impression we'd best drop everything and take action!

I knew my post would unleash this reaction. Yes, with the character there the sectors won't reset and the turrets don't get rebooted.

.......So?

That makes perfect sense you know, last week i was almost killed by a bus so I had my wife leave the apartment for an hour and when the apartment reset I was healed.

Conquerable station sectors are never vacant for 5 consecutive minutes when an attack is underway so I still don't understand what the problem is.
Mar 12, 2010 Aticephyr link
Heh. I wasn't suggesting immediate action take place. Was just relaying information which I believe to be true, as it might contribute to the discussion.

As for resetting being a "bad" thing, go make a thread. I agree with an implication of the OP that bots should not "break" intended game mechanics.
Mar 12, 2010 Pointsman link
The burden of proof rests on those, like mdaniel, who want to change the status quo, and so far no one has explained why sector resets are needed in conquerable station gameplay.
Mar 12, 2010 endercp12 link
I'm not saying this has actually happened (or at least that I've ever witnessed it) but as far as Pointsman's point about explaining why this is a bad thing: It allows the conquerable station to be potentially solo'ed by a player, who could take as much time as they want between runs with no fear of the turrets resetting when he/she breaks for lunch. This therefore is an advantage to whichever "side" has managed to post a bot in the sector permanently (giving an advantage to those with the means to program and operate a bot continuously

As far as the notification system, The intent was to be a notification of whether or not the station was under attack, not a constant monitoring system that allowed an attacking side to be absolutely sure a station was undefended before commencing their attack, which is effectively what the bot does.

latos i-8 is not soloable and that is a fact anyone who says it is, is clearly misinformed and has not tried to take the sector themselves. The amount of armor and the instakill missiles along with the turrets regenerating makes it impossible to solo.
Mar 12, 2010 Chaosis link
Errrr, Do you want me to prove you wrong?
Because I'll sure as hell solo it if you want proof. As long as vpr keepd their nose out if it, I guarantee I could take it out.

I nearly did once until Strat showed up and decided to call every god dammed pilot ever into I-8.

Asking to ban characters from going afk in i8 because someone crazy enough to brave the time and monotony of soloing the station would be able to take a break in the middle of their offensive [we have to assume that whatever mechanic was added that banned bots would also ban this attacker from going afk in i8 while he was away] is a huge stretch.

Since the group that puts an afk character in i8 can also be the group that is defending, you are wrong to say that afk characters always benefit the group associated with the afk characters, at least according to your theory, anyway.
Mar 12, 2010 endercp12 link
I do not see how being attack OR defender makes having a bot permanently in a contested sector un-advantagous, nor did I mean to imply that it was only good for attackers. I stated that it invariably gives the advantage to whichever side has the ability to create and maintain a bot an advantage. This is regardless of whether they own the station or not. The example of the solo-ing player was merely there because, as it currently stands, the bot in question happens to belong to the group that does not own the station. I would be equally critical of the TGFT/VPR doing the same thing.

Just a side not: This is not to imply that the bot being there is an abuse on the part of CHRN, its just an overlooked game mechanic that does give advantage. For all the people wishing to do away with IRC, it makes no sense to say that a bot HERE is okay, but a bot elsewhere is not.
