What about the Prom?
It's an interesting idea, but such a big change would likely unbalance a lot of things, and I don't know if re-balancing all weapons and ships is the best thing to be doing over the next few weeks.

I don't like a valk without an xgx...
too much change for too little gain. I'm not for this one.
Well, that would basically render gauss obsolete.
Is the usage of these ports exclusive for one weapon type? If so, you rob many ships of an important coaxial s-port weapon, which can be detrimental to their use in combat.
Medium ports is a fine idea but, why bother with giving the devs more work to just add medium ports and change existing add ons to fit them? Its pointless and anti-productive.
If we were to have medium ports, then we should have new add ons for the M-ports... also a bunch of work for the devs, but not nearly as much of a time waste

Small port would be for small light weight weapons like the posi's
Meduim port would be a general purpose port with the largest choice range.
Large port would be mostly unchanged.
I dont see it as being all that much work overall. The main effect would be to force a more varied weapon loadout. It would also be more beneficial then some of the nerfs that have been proposed for the flares.
Guass could be small port or a light variant of guass might be added. Either way I would hardly call it obsolete. I put it in the medium port so it would be used by the less manuverable ships.
The list I gave is far from complete. There are simply too many different weapons and ships to cover them all in a single pass.

I think its an interesting proposal.
I would argue that this is making the valk too powerful compared to the vult though. And I also wouldn't make the gauss a medium port weapon.
The vult can use flares... meh
echoing other thoughts...power balancing on these ships is sensitive business and seems to have taken a while to get to where we are...this is kinda dangerous
How about we have a B and an R port added to. Each holds up to one Beyonce or Rihanna. The Beyonce will be a great kill at close range, but the Rihanna would excell at long range sniper like attacks.

Hrm. The port system and ships as-is have been extensively balanced with the assumption that flares can be placed in small-ports. Honestly, I can't see this change going well at all..
Flares went to medium port and Vult is 2 small ports.... guns only and no flares. The Valk would be able to use 1 flare and 2 guns.
Since most of the medium port weapons are currently small port it would be easy enough to check the balance before any changes are made.

Alright, let's cut to the chase here: what are the benefits of the proposed changes?
I'm not seeing them, and a lot of other people aren't either, so please help us out. It seems to me like this change is somewhat arbitrary, a lot of dev work, and nerfs a lot of popular setups. So, what's the inspiration here?

This would probably be fine, but it IS a lot of work for the devs, with little to no upside except totally confusing the population of pilots, which would create chaos, which might be profitable for some.
It would be an alternative to nerfing flares and give the devs better control over the balance.
Flares don't need nerfing, and this whole proposal is fucking pointless. You're gutting most of the combos for light/medium fighters, and that's just stupid in a game that continues to exist solely because of the combat model.
Gutted or equalised?.... POV fellas.
Sigh. I see reading comprehension isn't your forte.
Nor yours....
i think it is hilarious how Dr. Lecter thinks his way is the right way. Thanks for the laugh, bud.
honestly though, this is rather pointless. if another port is going to be implemented, it should be the utility port. this has been suggested all over the forums for many years. if i cared a little bit more i might bump one of those threads, but i don't.

I find it amusing that neither of you mouth-breathing, minimun wage slobs can figure out that -- regardless of whether it would have an equalizing or unbalancing or positive or negative effect -- my point was limited to a simple, objectively factual one:
This change, as proposed, would gut the number of weapons loadouts on light/medium fighters. Gauss? Not on cents or vults. Flares? Nope. Rail vult? Nuh-uh. Light fighters can use energy only, period. There's nothing "POV" about that, you chromosomally abnormal shouldhavebeenaborted.
I personally also think that sort of limitation on diversity of set-ups is a bad thing in a game that is ultimately limping along solely because of the fun value of PvP for PvP's own sake (aka "Space Quake is all that makes VO fun") -- but as anyone with two neurons to rub together would see, that's a separate point from what I was primarily noting: this is really going to limit the combat rigs available for the supposedly combat-centered ships in VO. Which, oddly enough, you haven't really addressed in your rush to talk about how this would "balance" ships in VO.
As an aside, I don't have anything against this personally; this proposal would, hands down, benefit my combat style. When it comes time to fly to win, I hate light fighters and would like nothing better, personally, than to see them restricted from using rails, flares, and gauss. More meat for my Valks and Proms to chew on.
Gods I hate stupid people.
