I think that the capital ships need other weapons than just Gauss cannons and swarms. To be honest, they need a way to fight off much faster ships than they can already. We need a bit more variety for weapons on capital ships. I know that I would think twice about divebombing a capital ship if there were a gatling cannon or two on there. (not a turret, it would make things too easy for the capital ship) Is this possible?

The devs can drop any weapon they like into the caps. They've had beam weapons as well as gatling turrets. The turrets were a problem because they gobbled a lot of client and server resources. The beam weapons were cool, but too powerful, visually flawed and may have had a negative effect on the server as well.

Whistler, I did not mean that cappies drop the framerate. I said that a large number of ships in the sector drop it. The capital ships don't help, obviously, but they aren't that big of a problem.
Back on topic: I think it is really dumb to have the capital ships only have gauss cannons, as said before. If we could get the old frigate style weapons back (no beams) then we would be getting somewhere. We have to give people REASON to go into cappie turrets. Last I checked, almost no one does right now. Give them some variety, is all I'm saying.

Hint: give them a good reason to want to sit in a damn turret protecting the cap ship, and maybe they'll do it more often.

How about changing that craptastic turret design?
The turrets are designed to be optimized. If we made them look like articulated guns instead of pillboxes we'd have a lot more netcode flinging about. The goal's always been to ahve a bloody #$$% of a lot of capships able to be in one sector at once.
I'm giving Shadoen the benefit of the IQ doubt, Firebow, and assuming he meant the shitty view and interface for when you're in one.
Just the turret interface actually. It's been suggested before I think, having a cap ship model or something like that displaying the turrets location for faster and more accurate selection. Also, a command to cycle through them.
actually, it shouldn't be that much of a job to animate a gun turret from >inside< the turret's glory lava-lamp facade. the gun is inside the ship so no one else outside sees it. just the one manning that turret sees it from inside.

I think that more weapon variety on the capital ships would be brilliant but as I have made mention I am starting to understand the comments from momerath and others regarding that although these aesthetics would be awesome to have, it would just end up being too much for some older machines not to mention the latency issues that would come with that as well.
I vaguely remember some form of concussion rail weapon being displayed in the weapons section of certain stations in the core of Itani space. Maybe introducing these on the capital ships in BS would allow us the chance to offer experiences regarding their use as well as offer the variety that others posting would like?
Since I am in no way connected to the developement of this game aside from ideas I have no clue if their animation would be similar to the current railgun animation though if it isnt it would be cool to see them in action.

Upper case: then we may as well not have it at all. The reason we would want the guns to show is so that we COULD see it. If we did what you said, the models and polygons would still be there.
